I am about ready to scream!
This is going to make me sound like an absolute brat but i dont care right now!
I was more than happy to celebrate my 30th tomorrow getting the beach to New Brighton on my own, turn phone off and have booze & cake in the sun and for once not have some selfish bastard ruin my birthday like it alwaya has been!
Well my brother bought me a train ticket to come to my parents in Newark which I am grateful for him doing it but I didnt want to come!
I spent the afternoon in lincoln for my parents to say they hadnt got my present yet & now what I wanted is sold out.. I cant think of anything else i want (not going to have people waste money on stuff thats not needed) i was shouted at for it (go figue)
To top it off nothing planned for my birtday, my dad asked if i wanted to go an antiques fair (shoot me now) and mt other brother who was going to give up the spare room has now told me i have to sleep in the horribly uncomfortable couch!
On the verge of grabbing my bag and getting the train home.. Just wish I had been left to do what I had planned.. Yes it was a nice gesture but it has made me feel like utter shit and I'm just being told to suck it up.. :/

And breathe! Happy birthday for tomorrow, I'm sure you'll feel a lot better tomorrow, it's frustrating when your plans get disrupted but you will find a way to have a good time anyway  |

Tell them you are not sleeping on the couch, you either get a bed, or you are walking out and going to get a room at a local hotel.
As for the shouting at you for not wanting anything other than the item that was out of stock, they are the ones in the wrong there. They should have got it sorted earlier, but if its out of stock now tell them to order it in and you'll wait until it is back in stock again.
I don't think you sound like a brat at all, its your birthday and they should be bending over backwards to make you feel happy. Chin up and do the beach thing you planned with booze and cake next weekend instead.   |

I make sure of my birthday plans well in advance and broadcast them to all family. I see them often enough anyway.
Next year just make sure they know you are busy. And the weather is going to be good so you have plenty of time to get to New Brighton |

Just goes to show how different we all are. The only thing that was important to me on my 40th was that I was with people that loved me.....it didn't matter what we did. I guess we all have different priorities. it's only one day a year. The rest of the time I can do what I like. It's nice to do something that makes the family happy....especially when they are doing it for you. |

Firstly KittyKate, may I wish you a very Happy Birthday for tomorrow.
Secondly, I find your story rather upsetting. I would be absolutely horrified if my family 'told' me what to do for my birthday.
Fortunately, my family are quite the opposite. They may invite me out to dinner, but it's left completely up to me. Usually, I'm asked how what I would like to do, and how I want to spend my birthday.
I can, of course, understand that they might want to see you, but for crying out loud, why can't they make the journey to you????
As a parent myself, I find this completely unbelievable (the way they are being, not that I don't believe your story, lol)
Being a parent is about preparing your offspring for adult life. Teaching them how to do things for themselves. To be independent.
My kids are still quite young, but even so, I don't tell them that they are going to have a party, but I would ask them if they would like to have one.

Part of growing up is learning the slow and painful lesson of when to let your family into your life and when to get them out... at least that's what me and Mrs Passion have come to realise. Happy Birthday for tommorrow.. and I genuinely hope they surprise you with something nice... but accept that they perhaps won't lol |

Its great getting a nice pressie and something you really like. I have received so many crap presents over the years that it's hard to keep smiling and saying thanks.
