Every 6 months (i can never afford a years worth ) i say i am going to save those post office stamps so that when it comes round to it i dont have a massive lump sum to pay out but every time i dont and nd up skinter than a skint thing

why cant they do like they do with the TV licence and let you pay monthly by direct debit??

Why pay it at all?? stick it on petrol then people who use the roads a lot like me pay more

They could introduce rebates for food distributors so that prices dont go up

It would also catch out the many people who still dont pay the bloody thing

And it would also save all those paper discs so better for the environment xx

A friend of mine drives a big 4X4 L200 & his VED is only £150 because of the relatively low emissions. Have a read up on the cars that take your fancy, you might be suprised at how low some of them are in the tax bands.

What's needed is a good statistical mathematician.

He could work out how many miles of road we could drive on, before all these bus lanes, chevrons and cycle lanes (that seldom get used)were applied.

Then deduct from our road tax the amount of drivable road that we've lost to these measures.

The D.O.T would probably end up owing us!

It also really pisses us off that only about 6% of road tax actually goes towards upkeep of the roads.

XXXX

None of it does does it?

VED is taken by HM Treasury & is part of the general revenue pot. Roads are funded by the Council Tax. Only Motorways are funded from HM Treasury.

Personally i think a Pay As You Drive tax is the fairest, with a reduction for vehicles with low emissions. Mind you, we already have the last part..

buy a older car, pre 73 tax free, cheap insurance. 1 of ours cost £120 a year for mot and insurance. ok miles are limited to 5000 a year but could up it.

great when dvla send me a reminder my tax is due, just go online apply with no fee and a new one arrives, cost them 2 postage stamps.

oi I drive 1000+ miles most weeks, wouldn't be able to afford to work if even more tax went on fuel

The tax disk can only be purchased if you have a valid MOT cert and insurance. It was one way in the past and still now i would think of the beat bobby knowing if a car was road legal or not by just looking at it.

but all that onformation is on databases now (i know i watch my fair share of road wars/police interceptors ) so they can tell at any time if someone is breaking the law

How far from work are you?

Why not sign up for an adult cycling class & then start cycling to work? Do it gradually, say one day a week at first & build it up over several months. Your fitness will improve remarkably & its great for toning the legs & bum

To give you an idea, this last weekend we all took part in the CRC Mountain Bike Marathon in Grassington, N.Yorks.

MJ did the 25k route with a friend of ours who was diagnosed with breast cancer last yr. The 'race' was exactly 12 months to the day since she started chemotherapy. Its been a very tough yr for her but she has found the strength to take up cycling and even take part in such a gruelling event.

If she can, we all can.

(I did the 50k, came home 37th out of 351 & came 9th in my category )
