I'd say 90% of the comments I read on forum posts here prove just how many people have BDD, well either that or they're just attention seeking, which is probably the more likely option of the two. Women complaining they're fat without a roll, tyre, stretch mark, ounce of cellulite on them. I'm talking like flat stomached size 12-14's generally who go on like they're a 32. I have no confidence, I'm a 24 year old with saggy tits, who hates her fucking body and sees someone the size of a house when I look in the mirror but even my BDD is mild compared to most on here. This is one of those "and I thought I was bad" threads. |

I think its more to do with low self esteem and needing an ego boost than real body dysmorphia
I have a friend who was hospitalised because of that, her life was a living hell,I wouldn't apply the same diagnosis to the women in here |

I think the opening post shows a lack of understanding of body dysmorphia and confuses it with attention seeking |

When I used to look in a mirror I saw someone looking back far bigger than I was. It plagued my life for years.
Recently it went like a switch. I look in a mirror and although not happy with what I see, I now see me as I am. Not perfect but I'm me and I'm here. I have never felt as good about myself and it feels bloody fantastic!! |

For me it's a simple choice. I can let my insecurities hold me back or I can just say fuck it and go and have some fun!
The mind is much more attractive than the body.

I go through fazes of it. My mirror in the bedroom I'm happy with and i will use it see the full length of how i look.
BUT there's a window on the way to school if i look in it and catch my reflection it lowers my day as it makes me look huge.
It's a case of you having to know the difference between reality and what you think you see |

All my life I was slim, now I'm not but on the grand scale of things; stop taking meds go back to being slim but ill, or keep taking meds and be plump? easy answer.
Accept and embrace yourself for all your faults and flaws and others will too.
How can anyone else respect you and care for you if you don't do so yourself people?
It's time some started believing that all the gorgeous ones in the tabloids and magazines have their insecurities too, no matter how perfect they appear.
Body dysmorphia? my (fat) arse!
It's a mental illness not something you catch from not liking your reflection in the mirror. |

You sound so miserable x you have to learn to love what you've got x or you need to change it
Or perhaps it is a 'look at me' ploy x .
Either way I'm very content in my own skin x and I'm fad from perfect x

None of us are perfect, its just some of us can see and admit our imperfections
I'm a size 14 so while not quite the size of house I am over weight, I also have saggy bits due to weight loss which I prefer to make people awear of before meeting, I say it because I don't want to waste anyone's time (or my own) meeting me who wont like my body in the flesh, not because I have a mental illness and I'm certainly not looking for compliments |

I think I am liberated sexually and I don't feel I have self esteem issues. |

I'm similar, I look at other more in shape girls, and feel envious. However, when I'm in bed with someone, I almost completely forget about my insecurities. Maybe I should spend all my time in bed! |

"There's more dysmorphia (read lying) amongst the men on this site. The amount "Athletic" guys who are nowhere near athletic is astounding."
I hate my body. It's no where near what I want it to be. I'm not the weight I desire yet and I'm not big enough for my liking either.
It's the reason why I selected slim. As that's what I see in the mirror, a skinny guy
This isn't a look at me post at all by the way. It's simply how I feel |

I used to be so skinny it was unreal and I constantly have those comments in my head about my weight and size.
I haven't had one in almost a year, until the they day when I met a woman and she said "you're not as big built as you look in your photos"
While she might not have said directly I'm skinny or whatever but hearing that makes me look at all the hard work I've put in the gym as nothing. It still gets to me I hate it |

And just because compliments gave me confidence to post photos of my body doesn't mean I have zero right to dislike what I see in my self.

Of course it does
I hate my belly the difference between men and women is women can cover up the bits they don't like with sexy undies, I would never post a naked pic, I also never get my belly out when having sex, or my boobs if I can avoid it, I just feel more confident with them covered, but if we want meets we have to show pics even if we don't like them |

"If you have body confident issues I think the most important thing to remember but also the hardest thing to accept is not everyone sees you as you see yourself "
That is so true.
I am happy in my stretched-by-fat skin in a way I never was when I was thin.
Bodies are dynamic, changing, things and and we need to get comfortable in our heads we won't look the way we look forever.

No it isn't. Lots of people on here have no self esteem issues, they're simply not as vocal about it. Why would they be?
There are a fair number of attention seekers hoping for an ego boost, nothing wrong with that but we should see much of it for what it is. |

Is very sad to read how unhappy some are with their bodies... For what ever reason its very real to those who are feeling it I am happy totaly with who and what I am ... And actually wouldn't change me at all... Don't feel all swingers have self esteam issues at all.... no way! I always say .. Be happy in your skin, you got it for life.
Only the people who are not happy can change the way they see themselves ... No amount of help and support will help if they don't see it for themselves.... Society also has to take some of the blame ... However being unique and accepting that helps too.... |

There's body dysmorphia and attention seekers. I think the op is referring to the latter. There's a marked difference between an anorexic thinking they're morbidly obese, the morbidly obese thinking they're average to some of the attention seekers on here. |

Sometimes I read people's comments and want to shake them and be like "have you seen yourself?" not that it would help but as a bdd sufferer myself I felt I was able to post this as wanted people's opinions and seems it is generally the attention seeking as I thought. It is however a shame for the people with bdd who it does seriously fuck with such as one of the earlier posters friend. I do believe it is something very difficult/almost impossible to have control over depending on any other mental illnesses you may have alongside the bdd. But as with most mental illness, a lot of people are ignorant to it or fake it. Sad world we live in really x

I just think there are alof people on here who fish for compliments, I personally dont think a prompted compliment means anything. I would much rather be complimented by someone out of the blue as that is more genuine.
Ive been in many situations where a really slim lass is saying oh my god im so fat its disgusting, I humor them at first and say nah your not your so slim yadayadayada then I just say, yeah you are huge, like a fucking whale now piss off.

In my teens and early 20s I was a 12. After my marriage broke down I dropped to a small size 10 and I think I looked unhealthy. At 41 I am now a curvy, but reasonably fit, 14 with a baby belly. I love my sexy curves. I wouldn't mind being a 12 again but life is too short to diet
There is too much media pressure to be thin. I'd rather be happy. |

I try my hardest to gain weight, id love to be a size 10-12 but its impossible for me to achieve, although I personally think I still look good the way I am, id love to have my boobs back at a 34DD which they were when I first joined this site, but they are now a 32C which is significantly smaller, although my nipples arent as big as they used to be and I like that haha! The pressure on young girls to be thin is unreal, I even tell them they dont want to be so slim, it causes just as many hinderances as being overweight. Although im sure none of them believe that!

There's 3 things here: attention seeking, genuine body dysmorphia and just feeling a little bit inadequate. I think most fall into the latter camp. It's hard not to sometimes, clothes shops, BMI and even strangers sometimes all tell me that I'm fat...so even the most confident people get knocked.
Mind you, I think society is becoming a lot more judgemental on male appearance now, all that "bro, do you even lift" shite. |

I guess it's hard for people who feel a little apprehensive about how they look, try to deal with it but then they look at a lot of profiles on here of people who they fancy and like the look of, then they see that profile says stuff like "Must be size 6 with huge tits" or "Must have athletic body and be VWE" |

Sorry but I don't agree with your two options. Bdd or attention seekers. I am neither of those. But my life is affected by the way I see myself. I have very low self confidence because of the way I look. I'm not even going to say what it is I don't like about myself as I'm not wanting to draw attention to myself. Everyone is different and just because you have been diagnosed with a condition it doesn't mean the rest of us are not genuinely distressed . |

Everyone is different and just because you have been diagnosed with a condition it doesn't mean the rest of us are not genuinely distressed . "
I never said it didn't. But to me you would be one of the people that needs shaking as unless you have an incredibly hideous face there's fuck all wrong with you and probably 90% of people would say the same. You have lush nips too x |

Weird weird people, I don't like complaining about my body as I have no major hang ups, I can say I like what I look like but not in a dick way... if I really did see something wrong with it I'd try to fix it asap without bringing much attention to what I'm doing. Attention seeking is the worst!
There's more than a nice body to person, your attitude, the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you act out and about, the way you think, be fun..nobody likes a moany person specially when they don't do anything about it. |

"I'd say 90% of the comments I read on forum posts here prove just how many people have BDD, well either that or they're just attention seeking, which is probably the more likely option of the two.

There is a great saying I was taught in training recently.
Don't judge other peoples struggle, until you have lived THEIR struggle you cannot understand it. |

Could say that about most forum posts/topics then as the vast majority of them must be judgemental of something which generally turns into someone. |
