Not convinced it's always txt speak, more often than not it's simple spelling mistakes which, when you consider the myriad of spoolchuckers out there is inexcusable........ |

If someone used text speak to contact us then to my mind they only qualify themselves for the three-minute shag instead of the usual hour-ish full foreplay version - if they can cut corners - so can we! |

We never answer email on any site or on our vanilla mail that is text speak! When looking for playmates, if they can't be bothered to write properly why should we bother to consider them as playmates?
We do tend to go a bit easier on people who make spelling mistakes, can happen to anyone, but if they are consistant.. Use a feckin spellchecker |

Like everything else in this world, text speak has its place,...in a text.
...and even then I dont use it, cant understand it half the time, and certainly wouldnt try to gain fair maidens with it...lol

One of my pet hates is text speak, so I agree with most of what's been said before - I find it lazy, illiterate and ugly. I had thought it was just me being a grumpy old man so I'm glad that others (younger too!) are of a similar mind! As sugarxspice said - I don't even use text speak when I'm texting! It may have a place in a text - but anywhere else or on a profile I find it quite unacceptable. OK - just call me Victor.....!!! |

I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with text speak per se, if used approrpriately. Each generation latches onto their own way of identifying themselves from preceding generations, and although txt spk is not exclusive to the younger generation, I do feel that for them they have adopted it as a means of conveying the message: 'this is us' - (pun intended)
Personally, one or two lines of txt spk is about all I can handle, anymore than that and I simply give up and stop reading. |

I am so glad it is not just me. I may be a bit anal when it comes to spelling and the correct use of grammar but that is my choice. My thinking is that if you cannot construct a sentence correctly, then chances are you will not be able to stimulate my mind! If you cannot stimulate my mind then you have no chance with my body. |

Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but to my mind, spelling and punctuation are essential to correct communication. We read so many profiles that don't even use a full stop, in what aught to have been a piece of about fifteen paragraphs.
The text speak phenomenon shows a cultural shift which I don't believe will aid communication in any way. So many have already said they don't understand it
What is inportant here though, is that without the use of spelling, grammar and syntax, nobody can really understand what a writer is trying to convey. There is far too much room for misinterpretation.
Christ! How bloody boring do I sound?
I believe every word I say though.
