"A few weeks ago I posted a thread about how much power (and ultimately cash) I could save by switching off my PC when not in use. I subsequently found that by powering the printer down instead of leaving it permanenantly ready to print, I saved an additional 1.5p per hour. Today I've bought 3 Ecotek power saving blocks. Essentialy what they do is to turn off the power to any items that are connected to them when you turn off the tv, for example TV/DVD/Wii/Home cinema. Both of out TV's cannot be switched off without pulling the plug, so they remain on standby - both of them combined + the home cinema and all the other associated rubbish that just sits on standby are consuming about 4p per hour. They also do the same unit but for the PC so when you power down the PC, all the other items will also be powered down, thus saving you money. At £20 each, definately a worthwhile investment" Remote plug sockets are good for the TV etc. You go to bed and things that are hard to reach you have on a remote socket. one flick and they are all off. Maplins do them for about 8 quid each. | |||
