Why is it important? All that's important is the steps and precautions You take to protect yourself. What other people do is up to them.

I do, and thanks to a thread on here had a Hep B vaccine done too - well you might as well, it's free! I'm lucky I have a great rural clinic to go to, it's much nicer in there than my doctors surgery actually!

I always get checked at least every 3 months. If I'm meeting other people (rather than just having sex with my boyfriend) then it's more regularly - about every 6 weeks.

The consultant at the GUM clinic in Edinburgh told me that it was unnecessary to go so often. I explained my sexual activity, in painfully honest detail, and he said six to twelve month check ups were sufficient.

That's good enough for me but I'm a safe sexer!
