Diy help needed..

I'm fitting a 21.5 inch tele to wall in kitchen.. If I buy a wall bracket are they easy to put up? It's a potition wall so will I have to screw in screws but do they need screw cap thingys? Haven't a clue!!!

If you mean partition wall ie plasterboard.
I dealt into the stud but otherwise you need to get the bolts with the big expanding butterfly on the back designed for plasterboard that way you've got two nice big 4 inch arms spreading the weight across the board.
Normal screws will just rip out. |

Dude, i'm not a DIY expert by any stretch of imagination but you say it's a partitioned wall?..
I wouldn't be screwing in a Wall Bracket to hold a TV into plasterboard.
Assuming it is of course a plasterboard wall. |

Go to bnq ask for anchor fixings they open up, when they are screwed in... Really Depends wether the partition wall, is plaster board or solid! Google I think is your friend...on this one..bnq will also offer free advice!  |

I am no expert, but I have erected a similar TV in a bedroom. I borrowed a joist locator from a friend and drilled and plugged the bracket to the joist. I would be very surprised that the butterfly screws would be able to support the TV and bracket. Good luck |

If it's a plasterboard wall and you can't get fixings into the stud I would be cautious even with expanding wall fixings.
Personally I would locate studs fix a couple of battens say 2x1 across the wall horizontally at the same height as fixing positions on bracket. Screw the 2x1 to the studwork using say 75mm screws. Paint battern same colour as wall.
Fix bracket to battern with some 50mm x no 10 screws that should hold
The long winded way would involve cutting out section of plasterboard fitting noggins where bracket located etc... |

As some of the other posters have said, unless you can locate the studs and screw into them, it's not wise to mount a TV on a plasterboard wall.
Of course, even if you can locate the studs, you'll need to make sure the both sides of the wall bracket eill be mounting to studs.
Whatever fixings you try, if you mount the TV to just Plasterboard, when you attach the Telly, it will rip out of the wall, possibly bringing a chunk of Plasterboard with it and you'd most likely end up with a smashed TV |

It should tell you on the packet what weight baring capacity the plasterboard fixings are capable of.

If it is plasterboard get some screw in metal plugs made for plasterboard, then screw the wall mounting to that.
Considering the cost of the tele, payout to get it fitted correctly. As you would be fucked if it came off the wall. |

that is why you recommended battens! personally I would copy the basic idea but with 2 bits of aluminium or steel strip about 50mm wide and 3mm thick bolt the bracket to them and screw them to the studs, won't stand so far out from the wall that way. |

Also what you have got to think about is if the person who done the plastering used one full sheet off plasterboard or if he used 2 or 3 pieces of board it wont take the weight regardless of screws used. |

Thank you I know it's probably a trivial task but I've used a drill followed instructions used different screws a spanner and a screw driver I'm so impressed with myself! |

When I'm off work next week I'm gonna fit spot lights in the cielings. As long as I follow instructions to a tee it will be fine. Could get used to this diy milarki! ! |

I didn't check for any cables I genuinely shut my eyes let out a ooommmggg and just pushed the drill hard in lol cables are hidden behind tele so it's all good! |

are you planning on fitting new downlights?
if so, you need to be qualified to do any cable work as you're installing a new circuit. ideally you need your BS7671 (17th edition regs certification), without the correct qualifications you're actually breaking the law and also voiding your house insurance as most companies will tell you to bugger off if you set fire to your house and then put a claim in for it without evidence of installation by a 'competent person'. Most new electrical installations need to be passed by your local building control office (some do, some don't- best to call and check with them).
If you're just replacing old lights, make sure you get fire rated units as you may need these to comply with part B of the current building regs (containment of fire type stuff- depends on exactly where you're fitting them) |

Haven't an absolute foggiest about certificates lol. . I'm replacing old ones with holigen lights.. house isn't mine it's rented I can't get a mortgage so just renting.. A little hole or two will be fine I'll get some pollyfiller I'm the holes before I leave! |
