...my dream vehicles are a Land Rover Defender and a Nissan Figaro and I drive my cars hard, what would you suggest I buy for 2 - 3K?
Caveat. I'm a woman, I don't care about the stuff that some blokes care about other than not forking out a fortune in insurance.
Our resident car expert, Mr Who, is on the case but he has a leaning towards Alfa's |

Why on Earth would you want an Alfa? |

"If you weren't 8ft tall I could see you in a classic Mini with an Italian Job paint scheme! "
I'd love a classic Mini. Whilst sitting on a forecourt a few years back, I spotted an old, battered one and watched with joy as a bloke who must have been at least six four, fold himself in and chug off with the back end two inches off the Tarmac. |

"Are u planning on going off road ?
If so land rover
I'd go off road if I had a car capable of it.
A defender then.
I can't find one in my price bracket. The ones worth getting at around 5K."
Have you considered a td4 discovery ? Again not sure of prices |

"Suzuki Vitara.....lol!
Even that's better than an Alpha. Not sure how you got car expert and Alpha in the same sentence??"
If you could spell it correctly I'd give your opinion some consideration..... |

Hmm, if you like the Nissan Figaro, how about looking at the smart roadster coupe. Ok no good off road, but they are rear wheel drive, stupidly economical, go round corners like they are on rails and most important with your bum so close to the ground you are constantly smiling without putting your licence at risk :D |

Nice idea but I'm not feeling it. |

"i'll say again .... Freelander
No Chelsea Tractor for me thanks. Too big.
too big ??? but your op says a defender which is bigger than a freelander "
Yep, out of my price range though but I love them. I used it as an example of what sort of thing I'd be attracted to. |

"MGB
They look great but will possibly spend more time broken than running. Plus finding one that isn't rotten is a tall order."
Agreed but I knew it would appeal and might form the basis of other suggestions. |

A skateboard may have been a better suggestion! |

I'm fast learning that what I love and what would be best are poles apart.
I hate compromise."

had a figaro which i imported painted black from japan, they came in the colours of the 4 seasons so a black one stands out although not original but that doesn't put some people off. i caould tell ya all about them like they are suited to town driving only as the gearings not up to motorway use, anyway my car of choice is in me pics |

£3k will buy you a reasonable early Porsche Boxster for those 'drive hard' moments on an open road.......you might have to get a little adventurous looking at insurance quotes but you should be able to find a deal with a bit of luck |

"Ah bloody heck. Thought i had a buyer for my Merc! You know you can literally stand in in...or ot might be just me.
Oh ok, 50 quid do?"
That won't even do a full tank of petrol.

I've always wanted a landy
Unfortunately it's very hard to get one in your price range.
If you do see one check the chassis. That's the bit the body sits on.
If it's rusty and 9 times out of ten it will be walk away.
At that price they are a large money pit.
Try a freelancer less trouble and more comfort.
That's my pennies worth. |
