"Is scrubbing quicker than peeling?

A"
You'll have an allotment soon and then you'll extoll the virtues of your home grown carrots and the travesty of the washed and pre-cut no taste carrots that are in the shops.

I've heard you lose vital vitamins when you peel veggies as there are more concentrated closer to the skin. Besides the skin is added fibre.
Well it works for me. Not peeled a carrot in years. |

"think its just been a thing passed down then as my grandma and mum always wash and peel all veg "
So did mine but they bought veg which still had dirt and muck on from the greengrocer's. These days we can buy pristine veg from the supermarket. Just give em a good wash and chop up. |

"I thought that once a vegetable got into a saucepan it was automatically washed , rinse them, cut whatever shape you need and cook em... "
Have to ensure all the chemical fertiliser and pesticide is removed. |

Buy organic, saves scrubbing the chemicals in the tap water into them |

"I must be well sad as I buy fresh veg and wash, chop and freeze them. If I don't they go off before I can eat them. "
fruit and veg start losing their goodness as soon as they are picked
the frozen ones have more goodness as they are frozen as soon as they are picked but the "fresh" ones from the shop have been losing goodness for days |

The cost of buying veg already chopped and in small portions is astronomical. When compared to buying fresh and the money I save goes on nice meals out and trips to the theatre etc. |
