I made this point on another thread early and would like others _iews on it.
In the forum people are always telling others to use their filters to prevent unwanted mail. However, I don't feel any of them are useful. I don't care how old a people are, whether they are site supporters, newbies, have public pics or verified. Surely filters like, body type, location, sexual orientation / preferences, race, whether they can accommodate etc would be more useful to block unwanted mail.
What do you think? :/ |

It would be far more useful to search on that criteria rather than block. People who rely on only meeting people who feel fit to say hello to them limit themselves so much. |

Yep!
So you'd meet a 98 year old newbie? Really?
Filters work for many. They're not perfect, not the answer to all problems - but they help.
Go browsing. Look for what you want and send the first message.
That way you're guaranteed that those you message you'll be attracted to/interested in.

Of course I'd meet a newbie no reason not to if I like them...as to age I like young looking, so no I wouldn't meet a 98 year old unless he looked like a 35 year old Adonis but I'd never know this if I blocked everyone over a certain age (which would be 40 if I was to) but I am sure there are plenty of gorgeous guys over 40 so I wouldn't want to miss out based on an assumption if what I expect them to look like. As for searching.... I do, I never stated I didn't!! |

Said this many a time.
If people took time to read profiles, and respected choices, then filters would not be needed, would they!
We had a couple contact us on Friday asking for a full swap meet. We simply asked had you read our profile to see if we match and they said no!
Our polite answer to this was 'is this site about what you want or what we want?' We always thought it had to be what everyone wants.
In short, check a profile, see if we both match, no filter would be needed, would it? |

Yep I agree, don't know why people always bang on about filters. I have none and base my decision on the profile not a predetermined set of rules! |

"I thought the filters worked more on incoming mail...stops all the unwanted ones...
Or am I just reading it all wrong "
Yea you are correct, I was referring to incoming mail. As stated I don't use filters, but the filter lovers think they are the answer to people getting unwanted messages, personally I don't see how but I am digressing from my original point lol. What I mention would be a good search for those looking for someone specific though x |

As I said they're not the answer to all problems.
But they prevent those outside our desired age range from messaging.
Having turned them off before - having them on cuts 50% of messages out. So good for us.

I'd like a few more sanity check pages.
At the moment if you try to message someone not looking for your gender, you get a "Stop and Think" page pointing out your message might not be welcome.
I'd like the option to set other groups to get those pages, like smokers.
I don't like to block based an age and I wouldn't want to block, for example, smokers completely because it would prevent people from the forum messaging me.
I don't know if it would help deter smokers from contacting me for a meet but it might help.

I think if someone is seeking a very specific type of person, they could block everyone from messaging and do the searching themselves. If not, the general type of filters currently are ok. |

Lots of people use filters and they seem to work fine. In particular the 'not looking for men' filter works well. I have no mail filters, my profile is the best filter ever. |

I think a race filter would be good. Our profile politely says white guys only but we very frequently get messages from black/indian guys. You can select race when you search so why cant the same selection be available as a filter. It would avoid situations were we have to point out our white guy preference and being called racist. |

"Rock
People simply reading your profile and respecting your choices would fix that issue.
Shame the majority don't read it."
Thats just it they dont. A filter avoids the problem caused by people not reading it. Isnt that the point of them? Age range is on profiles but there is still a filter for it. |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
I only see people recommending filters when they would obviously work, for example people moaning that they get unwanted messages from single men can block messages from them. As can people who don't want to meet others over or under a certain age band, or people who are new. I rarely see filters advocated for things that cannot be filtered, such as body type or attractiveness, probably because they are not quantifiable like age and gender are. |

I don't think its racist and I hate it when people suggest it is, which in my opinion, just exacerbates racism. People choosing to only meet black people don't get excused of racism. I think its just personal preference / choice, as some prefer blonde or fat, tall or short. People should just respect your wishes and not make a big deal out of it. Racism is not acceptable personal choice is

We don't use any filters at all. Can't see why we'd want to stop anyone from messaging us just based upon their gender or relationship status. At this point it's easy to just delete propositions from unsuitable candidates... even then some of them just make us giggle, like the bloke who offered to do nude waitering for us ... but other than that we're open to chat and make friends
I can imagine this might change the minute we get more serious and start posting more pics of Mrs P though... might have to filter single blokes at that point... depends how swamped we get |

This is how everyone should be, yes its irrating going through hundreds of messages when nobody is suitable, and sometimes frustrating but usually fun and in 2 years of being on here hardlybmissed a day of checking my mail so I must like something lol |
