Where does the north/south divide line start/finish?

Many chip shops in the midlands do chips and gravy, had them many a night on coming out of nightclubs at 2am.

I was suprised by the lack of choice on the menu in chip shops on the south coast and also some seaside towns in Wales, no southern fried chicken, no kebabs, no pies, no curry sauce, no gravy, are these real chip shops? They seem to be missing a trick, these things are commonplace in midlands chippys.

Kebabs come from the kebab shop.

Every chip shop I've ever been in round here sells pies, curry sauce etc. but you do need to travel to a kebab shop for a kebab.

Felt I had to chip in on this lol, even though things are called different names depending on where you are in the country, so a bun can be a stottie, barm, bap, cob, or many other names but how can it be a tcake when you can go in just about any supermarket up and down the country and buy a packet of warburtons tcakes, and they clearly have dried fruit in them, currants and the like, also a chippy isnt a proper chippy if it sells kebabs and all that muck, and it has to sell chips and gravy.

"Right time to talk wiganese

Chips babbies head pea wet and smack xx leave the non wiganers with it I guess the southerners might be a bit lost lol "

I think if my Wiganese is still up to scratch you want chips with the juice from mushy peas, meat pie with foil kept on and a smack is a sliced, battered and fried piece of potato!

like I said its a regional thing as to what certain things are called depending where you are, but again I understand people from a certain area no tea cakes as they have said, I was not trying to say anyone was wrong, I was merely stating you can buy a pack of warburtons tea cakes, and they arent called currant tea cakes or fruit tea cakes, they are just called tea cakes, just about anywhere up and down the country and thats what you get, but in comparison you dont see packs of stotties or baps been different to what you were brought up on, thats the point I was making.

I have never seen rolls labelled as tea cakes down here. Warburtons sell white or brown rolls.

Totally missed what I said, the people who call a roll, bun, bap, barm, stottie etc a tea cake where they come from, I was saying aswell as a couple of others had mentioned an actual product called a tea cake, they have been around for many many years and they contain dried fruit such as currants and the like, warburtons among many others have made them for years, they are stocked alongside other products such as crumpets, if you walk into many cafes here and abroad and see toasted teacakes on the menu, this is what you get, I wasnt saying anyone was wrong, the people from that area have obviously grew up calling a normal bread roll a tea cake, I was just stating that theres actually a product out there made specially and called a tea cake and its not what those people think it is.

Gravy on chips is just wrong. You go to all the effort of making them crispy then pour gravy on them
