Lending to/borrowing from family

Depends on how much, who it is and whether I can afford to lend it.
I.e: I would lend money to my Mum or my sisters in a heartbeat if they needed it but wouldn't to my brother or any of my cousins.

Also have borrowed from Mum and sisters in the past and they KNOW they're going to get it back as and when promised. x |

My only borrowings now are a mortgage that's only got 5 years to run. I have never borrowed off friends or family. I have never been asked for a loan, but I wouldn't lend, I prefer to give |

I stood surety for a 3K career development loan for a family member who then got into trouble with making payments. I paid it off in full, as the least worst option and they are paying me back as and when they are working. I'm not in any rush and as it stands he needs the money more than I do at the moment. |

At least they are making the effort to pay you back.

"I owe my family quite a bit, I think my inheritance has decreased some what "
I've borrowed a fair bit in the past from the folks. Paid most back - the rest try said not to worry about.
Their argument is that I've cost them far less over the years than my siblings as they've not had to spend a penny on grandkids with me, whereas they've (Happily) spent plenty on the five sprogs my brother and sister have hatched.
To them - I'm quite cheap!

I have just given to people, when they have needed me.
I have taught my kids to pay back what they lend, to learn to stand on their own two feet for the future.

Made a massive mistake years ago, lending money to family. It was quite a sizeable chunk too. Never seen a penny back, now i refuse any requests for the loan of anything. |

I only caught the tail end of the show, intrigued by next shows feature on using private lets instead of flying scheduled flights - sounded great. I dont think its a good thing, but would if it prevented catastrophe and there was a clear repayment agreement and ability. |

biggest mistake i made was being guarantor for a load for my brother, i really trusted him to not shit on me but he did, he made the first payment then refused to pay anymore, his attitude was more fool you for putting your name to it, they took me to court and i was made to pay the loan back, guess he was right, more fool me for trying to help |

I would never borrow money from any memeber of my family, but I would lend ( give ) to my children when ever they need to borrow... I would never ask for it back though and up to date it's only been small amounts £10 up to a few hundred |

My mums justification is that I don't have someone to spoil me so they are stepping in until someone comes along...I think she regrets saying that now. |
