Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck.
So it's the first day of two weeks off for me. Am I enjoying a nice lie in? No. Am I out for a spot of retail therapy? No. Am I catching up on recent films or indulging in an all day session with a boxed set? No.
I'm sat at the services waiting for the RAC to come out to tow Fox's new car that we bought on Friday back to the dealer as it currently sounds like it'll either explode or at the least the arse will drop off it leaving me running like Fred Flintstone to get it from A to B.
Sat for up to 3 hours.
Then having to pay nearly £20 to get it over the Severn Bridge and sit in a cab with someone making meaningless conversation whilst probably listening to Radio 2 or heaven forbid Classic FM. For two hours.
Then having to get a train (I fucking hate trains!) back home. For two and a half hours.
No doubt MrWho will be along in a while to say 'told you not to buy French' (yes, you were right - but the Germans/Italians don't make small hard top convertibles!!).
So here I am. Sat drinking coffee and smoking in the drizzle. Because I need to reduce my stress level sufficiently to prevent me inserting said small car in the arsehole of the arsehole who sold it to us, allegedly having 'serviced and MOT'd it for you today'!!
Used car dealers.
Just jumped above PPI claims companies and Jehovah's Witnesses on my 'most hated' list.
Meh!!!

What exactly is it doing and are there any dash lights on?"
Don't ask! I suspect I know what the problem is and it won't cause a light to flash on the dash!
Luckily the tow itself won't cost me as the cover is free.
I can just think of better ways of spending the day!

I should also say that the dealer is fully responsible for a minimum of six months (certain restrictions apply) to ensure that the vehicle is fit for purpose. Any out of pocket expenses (towing, taxis, etc) should be covered by them as well as a full repair or refund. |

Get the number for VOSA too. If it's something that should have been spotted on the MOT then the tester could be in deep shit if he missed/hid something (a car dealer cutting a deal with an MOT centre or MOTing the cars they sell themselves.....who'd have thought it?). |

Well - the nice guy from the RAC has just left and guess what!
It needs towing back to the dealer.
Like I told them at 10 friggin am. So now have to wait possibly two more hours for a truck.

"MrWho....mines a diesel..."
What year? It's quite a simple job but modern diesels require certain precautions due to the pressure of the fuel system.
The system will also need bleeding before it's started again or it'll misfire possibly causing more problems. |

Sorry read it like you had been towed home. Dont let them! My husband got towed home at midnight as nowhere was open. Told they would arrange for it to be taken to garage in morning, come morning it was yeah we'll do that for a ridiculous amount of money. We was with them little over a month and ended up with all our payments back plus the cost of repairing the car |

The last car i bought from a second hand car dealer developed an oil leak 2 weeks after i bought it. The car dealer and the MOT testing station he used were right next door to each other so there were definately some dodgy dealings going on there between them, i had to take it back 3 times before they sorted the problem, and they only did it when i threatend them with getting trading standards involved. |

Yours doesn't need enhancing. I know you can blag additional benefits if you need to.
Now, I have found that massage is available but only at the RAC club for enhanced members. The bloke that gives the massage has really strong hands and is built like a sumo.

Make sure the battery is disconnected 15mins before any work it's started. The pressure in a modern common rail diesel fuel system can actually cut through fingers. |

Still waiting for the tow truck to arrive. Apparently he's en route and will be here within the hour.
Which considering he's coming from weston which is 20 minutes away and the call went out at quarter to two makes me wonder if he's using more than first gear!

I feel your pain. I used aa today to get my car to a garage, and took ages to sort.
Long and short being, I have a hole in a pipe connected to the turbo. Meaning no power and also a blockage in the dpf.
Said tube is on back order as Vauxhall are modifying the part. So I don't know when it'll get fixed.
I get 3 days of hire cat from aa, and have now got a Vauxhall mokka, which I have to say is shit.
Some I just waiting for a £300 + bill for the work to be done. |

That's a little steep!
The common fault of the lower turbo pipe getting a hole in it takes less than 20mins and requires a screwdriver and a 13mm socket. The part costs around £80 or £120 for the updated silicone version. A blocked DPF can be sorted by yourself forcing a regen. Basically you get the car warmed up and get on the motorway and drive for 20-30miles at 70mph in 4th gear. |

Still haven't moved an inch.
The RAC blame the usual 'high demand'.
The recovery company have been saying they're 'en route' from 20 mins away since 3.15 - and now say their eta is 4.45.
Just phoned the dealer and he says he closes at 6.
I've let all three (in my politest voice) know what a bunch of useless twats they are.
Would probably be easier for me to push it over the Severn Bridge.
If someone phones me in the next hour asking about PPI in going to reach down the phone, grab their testicles and play slinky!

No. But I've hot his mobile number and told him that when I get there (I'll call when close) if he's not there I'm likely to park it through his front window.
And to cap it all - the recovery truck just arrived. Finally. And guess what?
It's the wrong kind of truck, the car won't go up the ramp without ripping the front end off - and he has to go back to Weston to get a different truck!

Nope.
He's 95 miles away and doesn't have a truck.
What should have been a simple process (being a longstanding RAC member!) of getting an unroadworthy car from A to B has been an epic tale of bullshit, excuses and fuck ups.

Once the turbo pipe is fixed force the regen yourself rather than paying the silly money dealers charge to do it by putting it on their diagnostic machines. |

RAC is totally shit.
My Motocross bike flipped off my trailer on the motorway about a month ago, Petrol was pissing all over the road.
I rang them up and asked for assistance just to hold my Bike upright while i strap it back down.
They said they wouldn't come out as it's not technically a break down and it would cost me £100 quid.
I said no way, called my mate out and he held it while I strapped it down.
RAC pissed me off right there and then and cancelled my cover.
I called the AA and joined..told them what happened and the guy on the AA laughed in disbelief.
RAC are shit. End of. |

Cars are a flipping pain
My car has been suffering battery problems and today it wouldn't start.
I had a friend take me to get new battery that I fitted myself and fucking broke my nails!!!!
Will see if it starts tomorrow.
Might trade in for a push bike |

"So whats up with the car?
It's French!...
"
I'm laughing now.
Only because I'm soaking in the bath and will shortly be having a large glass of wine.
Could have been worse.
I could have been on my way to the Utd game in it and been driven all the way to MK in a tow truck!
That would have capped the day off perfectly!

Well 4 people are happy with tonight's result ~ they put money on at 250-1 for a MK 4-0 win... |

If I'd have put a tenner on that I'd have parked the car at asda with the keys in it and a note on the window saying "free to good home"!
*and another note underneath saying "no refunds'!"

To be fair, it's just 'Shitty luck. I know I slag French cars off a lot and often with good reason but I honestly wouldn't wish these problems on anyone. Hopefully the dealer will fix it properly and it gives you little or no trouble in the future. I gave Fox some details regarding diagnostics recently and I really do recommend you look into it. You can leave it plugged into the car all the time and often sort problems directly from your mobile phone, very handy if she's out driving with thelittle 'un.
any issues, you know how to get hold of me.... |

Having owned one I'd say that I'd much rather have syphilis than another French car. Whenbtheybstart going wrong they don't stop going wrong! |

I could have sent you details of several Spiders with hard tops. The problem was that they require you to physically remove the roof and leave it in the garage!....lol |

Sadly Alfa only really so soft-tops, mainly to save weight and maybe to reduce the risk of electrical issues. They did prototype a GT convertable a couple of years ago but they only made two. |

Bust CV joint.
Of course it must only have happened since we picked it up Friday as it would have been obvious during an MOT.
Obviously!

"PS...I had a Laguna once, and had no problems with it at all so all you anti French people....there was at least one out there that was ok
Is yours a Megane? in which case, sell it back ! "
No it's a Pug.
We're getting it fully checked over first thing tomorrow morning.
If anything else shows up it'll be going back to South Wales well lubricated - ready to be parked up the dealers arse!

"Oh dear....you see now I would be nervous as the MOT must be dodgy...when my CV went years ago you can hear it well before it collapse on you."
Yup, there's always significant play and knocking in them before they fail. Unless someone packs them with a ton of grease in the hope it doesn't fail straight away. Even so, it should never have passed an MOT. |

"Day 2 !
Cars fixed (allegedly!).
Currently waiting to board a train to go pick it up - already booked in for a full inspection when it gets home.
If it makes it home!

You're very patient. I think I would've said I want my money back. They should at the very least be sending someone to drive it over to you, not you pick it up.
Good luck. |

It's a dog, much like cars made by Peugeot and Renault! "
Well it made it back. Drove perfectly.
So keeping everything crossed!
Hopefully no more issues.
*except of course that it's French - but can't do much about that!

" And to cap it all - the recovery truck just arrived. Finally. And guess what?
It's the wrong kind of truck, the car won't go up the ramp without ripping the front end off - and he has to go back to Weston to get a different truck!
You just couldn't make it up!
A
Can't the car dealer come and pick the vehicle up?? I would be absolutely fuming by now!
Nope.
He's 95 miles away and doesn't have a truck.
What should have been a simple process (being a longstanding RAC member!) of getting an unroadworthy car from A to B has been an epic tale of bullshit, excuses and fuck ups.
At least I've got two weeks off work.
It might take me that long to get home at this rate!
A"
I'm sorry, but your big mistake is being with the RAC!! Green Flag is the better option! |
