I have been unemployed for 7 years but I have done the odd voluntary work. I have 14 months until I retire. Last week, I had a job interview and this week coming, I have another job interview. The first two in 7 years. I don't know how I got on in the first one as I haven't heard. What I'm asking is what questions should I ask when they say 'do you have any questions you would like to ask?'. Only serious answers please, no talk about 'yeah what about a shag?'! |

I like to ask what they enjoy about working at the company and maybe a question about how they started their - gives you some good insight by the answers they give and kind of builds a bridge between you and them on a bit more of a personal level.
Drop an email to them too (in the afternoon if it was a morning interview), just thanking them and that it was a nice to meet them. |

For reference, the two jobs, one is for the new Premier Inn in Eastbourne, they are still building it! And the second is a Tesco's. Both nights and both part time. |

If it hasn't already been covered, ask them what the next step will be. Will they phone you or email you? When is that likely to be? When are second interviews, if appropriate, being held.

When I interview people I like them to ask question about progression opportunities but that's just me each employer looks for different things for different roles

There was one question I was asked and that was, if a d*unk tried to get into the hotel late at night saying he was staying there, what would I do. I answered, I would ring the police and let them sort him out. Her face dropped liked a brick! |

Hotel receptionist? Ask about policies, training opportunities, eg. First aid etc... |

In answer to the op though what you ask is very dependent in what is covered in the interview and was else you want to know about the company/position you've applied for. Something to show you are keen and enthusiastic. |

I did my homework and impressed her. Do you know that it was Samual Whitbread who first opened his first brewery? In 2001 it was reinvented into Premier Inn, the first restaurants, cafes and hotels were open. They employ 43,000 people, have 350 hotels in England and Europe and 3 hotels each in the Middle East and India. I said all this, and she was well impressed. |

Dependant on the job role and aside from the usual (pay, uniforms, ect which should be covered by them anyway) there are a few questions you can throw at them which sometimes impress, i.e;
- What do THEY enjoy about working there?
- Are there many opportunities for progression and if so, do they provide training schemes.
- How well do they feel that their current team works together and is there a good level of communication between staff.
- Are there opportunities for over-time.
- (If a receptionist role) what system do they use (online intranet, Sage, B.A.U, ect).
It usually helps to think of it more as YOU are interviewing THEM.

Disagree - it could open up a whole new life - meeting lots of different people - who knows where things lead.

The question you answered was not done well as could you imagine the news paper headlines? Premier inn wouldn't let me back in my room?!
You should of answered something along the lines of that you would follow the company policies for dealing with d*unk customers but as you don't know the policies your initial thought would be to call for another member of staff for back up and ask the gentleman for his key card to check he is actually staying with you then help him to his room. If he wasn't a customer explain you can't help him and if he kicked off scared other customers then you would consider ringing the police.
I know it won't help u this time but would for next time. While your thinking of answers take a sip of water. Even say bare with me I'm just going to give this question some thought. Rather than blurt out a answer |

Next time try, 'ask him his name and room number so you can run it through the system and/or ask to see his room card and then ask his details'. Been there, done that, d*unk outside a premier inn I mean |

ive been so lucky with jobs, never been turned down for one yet.
With regards to 'is there any questions' i tend to ask about furthering my training and taking up work related courses, asking about promotion prospects |

i knew this lol as whitbread also own costa coffee hehe and costa staff get discount in the hotels haha which has nothing to do with this post lol sorry |

Questions Id ask would depend on the job, company and what was not covered in the interview. Id not ask for the sake of it. You would expect to cover role, when you would start and hear the outcome as part of the main chat and questions just help conclude, in case somethings not covered imo. Good luck! Id not post my work venue on the net though. |
