How is it pathetic? It's raised awareness and millions for a charity to help with an awful disease.
No one pays attention to just ordinary requests for money really, getting celebrities involved and doing something fun makes it more catchy. |

So many of these videos and barely any of them explain why they're doing it or how to donate to the cause. It's a wasted opportunity.
I liked Deadmau5's response - he refused but donated $10000 to the ALS charity. In my opinion, he raised more awareness of the cause than many others have.

Just saw benedict a few mins ago.

Yep...I agree that was a better way to do it! I've seen loads that don't even reference the cause or give any info about donation. I can't remember which celebrity it was who pointed out that the amount raised was pretty paltry given the net wealth of some of the individuals who were getting a lot of airtime through dumping a bucket of water over their white tshirt...but they made a valid point! |

I've seen a few celeb ones where they have the donation number on display and do say what it's for etc before they do it.
Agree though that there's not much point doing it without explaining why.
I bet half the people on my news feed are just doing it for a laugh and haven't even donated |

The point is a celebrity just sat in his office writing a cheque doesn't raise awareness of the disease. I've seen people suffering from it including one guy who's 26 and just been diagnosed and his mum and nan both had it, he was thinking everyone for the fact that people chucking buckets of water over their heads has done more for awareness of the disease than he's ever known. So surely it can't be a bad thing? |

So far it's raised $41,000,000 compared to just a couple of million dollars this time last year.

I had a very close relative die from MND. Everything that is done to help this charity is worthwhile. This challenge is raising awareness and lots of money. It's all good |

I saw that video and it was the only one I was inclined to share on Facebook. Really moving. I hope the amounts raised will be able to kick start some R&D into possible future treatments. |

I have been nominated 4 times, it's more cyber bulling than a bit of fun. They say they are making their own donation so you aren't paying them. But by passing it on, they are forcing you into it by peer pressure to donate for a cause you may or may not agree to. (quite a lot of animal testing apparently)
If someone came to you and asked for sponsorship to have a bucket of water thrown over them, you'd tell them to go f#3k themselves. If someone comes and asks for sponsorship for cycling or running or swimming even walking ten miles, you do it, they are making an effort.
Before anyone asks i did donate, and i have always donated to friends who make the effort with sponsorship etc. I just think this has gone too far now.

Because it's the drawing attention to themselves that makes people think oh what's that and then look into it.
I've heard of motor neurone disease but not ALS and it was only seeing a celeb doing it on Facebook that made me bother to google it and read up about it. And yes I've donated now without doing the challenge. (I've not been nominated)

Yer true als is were it started the cold water shows the symptoms of what a als sufferer goes through. On a day to day basis.
Even tho mammalian has jumped on the ice challange too I think personally. It's wrong they should of kept it to als were it started from. |

It was a thing that largely past me by until I got nominated.
Just done it , donated and nominated.
My next door neighbour died from MND so I know plenty about it and have donated before , no flowers at the funeral but a collection.
Any awareness raised is surely a good thing , right ?
Some people are proper grumpy bollocks. If you don't want to do it don't , if you don't want to donate don't. But don't moan about it , it makes you like a right miserable bastard. |
