I am going back to work next year but I have decided to change career path . It's pretty scary and I'm not sure what direction to take !!

I have a while to look and get training if I need it just no idea where to start !!! What do you think? Xx

Help please lol

( my back ground is travel , lifestyle management , financial , customer service etc )

Ask your local amateur dramatics society if they have anything full time available?

You could order me around the bedroom full time, pays rubbish but there's plenty of job satisfaction

On a serious note, what a great opportunity you've been given. I hope it all works out wonderfully x

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I'm in a similar situation. I've loads of transferable skills but absolutely no idea what I'd enjoy or what would suit me.

Paisley

Best advice I was ever given, was sit down with a pen and a blank sheet of A4 paper...Oh! and a bottle of wine! (Or your favourite tipple).

Open said wine and take a sip, then start to write down, things in life that you like to do/enjoy/make you happy and content. Keep writing and keep drinking until you have completely filled the page, and/or emptied the bottle...

....GO to bed and sleep on it. In the morning study the page through sober eyes, and somewhere on that page is what you should be doing with your life.

It worked for me....but may not work for others just my 2p worth. xxx

Media is where the money is with many opportunities at all different levels.

Think what you want to do or what you enjoy doing & if you can make money etc.

I pretty much quit the media industry about 18 months ago after 15 years as its very cut throat with a lot of competition from overseas- as lots of things are all cloud based now- plus theres an inordinate amount of utter wankers towards the top of the tv/film side and everyone i know doing it is really stressed.

One of my mates who i met when i first started was working at the Beeb and couldn't wait to get out as he had a constant stomach ulcer from the stress and long hours. unless you really specialise and pretty much immerse yourself in it 24/7 its not the nicest environment.

Counselling. Easy to pass the not very stringent qualifications, and easy to earn about £40 - £50 p/h.

Work out what you need to live on and what you enjoy doing- then try and find a job or start a company that lets you get paid from what you enjoy

I Jez was made redundant from a management role in December 2012 with Comet, felt awful didn't know what to do. I ended up with wetherspoons in a management role and that was a magor change but I'm actually so much happier. Good luck in whatever role you choose.

It may be worth looking at doing some temporary work in a field you are looking at - just to test the waters as to whether it's what you really want to do? I came into my current role through a secondment.

John started years ago as a poster designer for the CO OP and got into media from there, most of the work we do now is adult based.

We also make and design shabby chic bits, do stained glass windows and love craftwork of most types and will eventually go into this as we get older.

Our philosophy is if chuck enough shit at the wall something sticks...we will never be rich but we enjoy what we do.
