I keep hearing that Breaking Bad is the greatest thing since the invention of fellatio.
Some are saying it's better than Downton Abbey!
(Something else I must get round to watching)
My Q is. So many episodes, is it worth investing the time in to? |

I got through the first four episodes and gave up... slow doesn't cover it. However, it has been said it improves after that and millions raved about it. Trouble is, now I'd have to sit through those four episodes again so I haven't bothered. |

Oh yes, every single moment is well invested. I guess it's not for everyone, but it's tv at its best, gripping, well made, incredible performances and storyline that is really involving. Try it, see if it appeals. If people who know you recommend it, then it probably will |

"I'd say no.
I got to series 4, episode 5 and gave up.
Boring and going nowhere.
But loads of my friends rave about it, so I may be the odd one!!"
Wait. That shallow plot goes on for at least four series? How can it be spun out for so long, I'm only on episode three and I'm still waiting for something to happen. I gave a slight smirk when he rolled loo roll towards his hostage though. |

Breaking Bad isn’t for everyone as you need to watch it you need to understand the whole concept and it makes you assess your values and loyalties! Well let’s face it the main guy is a drug dealer and you should hate him not sympathise but clever writing leads your emotions. It’s not cheers, it’s not friends you can’t dip in and out or miss episodes to understand. Its different things for all people on all levels but those who can understand how the writer leads your emotions will appreciate it more. Does that mean its aimed at intelligent people who enjoy a rich gritty complex plot? The answer to that is undoubtedly yes as its not fluff or slash tv. |

Not sure I have enough emotion left to invest in a TV show. Life takes enough out of me at the moment. |

I know what you mean when things are hectic I watch other things less taxing plot wise, Breaking bad is worth watching if you want something meaty its the opposite of the scale to things like Friends. It is worth watching but its something that really requires a little time to do it full justice there are lots of other enjoyable shows that you can watch and enjoy without having to pay as much attention to. |

Of course it is....its unique given that walt wants to continue his modest lifestyle and his dealing is mostly done as a life assurance policy, most people i know that are in that line of business either end up in jail, end up dead, or end up spending all their profit....very few make it to retirement to enjoy their earnings! |

As above re the clever writing as to why the scenario was set as it is. (though there is a case of a teacher in Virginia manufacturing oxi.) |

Nothing happens in Breaking Bad?
It's fascinating. And the writing is far better than stuff like the Walking Dead, where characters change from week to week depending on what the writers have gotten themselves muddled up on. |

"I'm lost. Is it a TV show or a life changing experience?
"
Its thought provoking tv that plays on your emotions and concepts of good and bad. In the old cowboys it was simplistic the good ones had white hats the bad black. Its only the same as some people see films like Star wars opposed to ones like the foot locker. |

The Soprano's was very enjoyable lots of sub plots and individuals that were a sheer joy to watch, better well I would say different but equally well worth watching. |

"Who would you say is the villain?
Walt?
Jesse?
Skylar?
Gus?
hank?
Saul?"
Heisenberg is the villain though its written to get your sympathy for Walter even though you should want him caught. Then again Gus is also the villain and maybe Mike. The complexity of how your emotions are manipulated is what in my view makes it very clever. |

I borrowed it on dvd from my friend Gemma and it is good; it's worth watching, but it isn't as great as people would let you think. There are some great moments, but it doesn't take off like you would think. |

I don't watch much TV now.... However, BBad has had at least two moments where I was genuinely shocked and watched open mouthed.....
A couple of season ends.... And people who have watched will probably agree..
so for me it's a big yes......
Only other similar shocker was Opie in SOA
Oh and....lol... Actually quite a bit in SOA

I get the whole complexity of character thing. I've felt a huge range of emotions over Walt alone, let alone the other characters.
But there isn't enough of the rest of it to keep me entertained. After all, when I chose to watch something, I'm watching it for entertainment value, not to re-assess my own character.
I was watching it on Netflicks, which means that I can dip back into it if I feel the need to finish it. But I have a watch list that bloody long at the minute! |

I only watch TV once a week so a programme has to grip me. When we sat down to watch BB I got the feeling of oh no not this again. I could more or less work out what was going to happen in every episode after only five minutes. |

I watched it because everyone kept saying how amazing it was...waded through those first 4 episodes thinking, it has to get better, it has to. I didn't dip in and out of it and did try to 'immerse' myself in it, but I actually felt relieved when it was over. It completely baffles me when I see/hear people say it's the best TV show ever, best thing ever made etc. It's good but great, amazing? No. |

It's human nature to be contrarian in the face of when something is hailed as the 'best thing ever'. People don't like being told what's good and what's not so when something is hailed with a lot of critical acclaim and audience acclaim, people usually expect the greatest thing ever from the get-go. Like the first minute is a life-altering experience and it gets higher from then on. And when it's not they are disappointed.
My suggestion for everyone, whenever they hear something is incredible or amazing or best thing ever, is to use that to adjust a certain level of expectation/anticipation.
When someone tells you that Breaking Bad is the greatest tv show they've ever seen, you don't go in thinking "this is supposed to be the greatest. Prove it to me". Instead you should just go in expecting a certain level of quality or have a curiosity about where the plot goes. E.g. "I hear this is good, and the story sounds interesting. Let's see where this goes."
The people that loved Breaking Bad, started it as just any normal regular show and let that appreciation grow with time.
But if you're seeking opinions, My own personal opinion is that Breaking Bad is one of the best tv shows i've seen. Along with The Wire, Sopranos, Band of Brothers, The Office (UK) and Spaced.
I find the performances all fantastic, the characters well defined and memorable. Interesting, slow-burning storylines which combine great drama with some jet black or offbeat humour.
Also, just as an additional note. I don't find it a bad thing if you can tell where a story is going at the beginning. That's just good story-telling and set-up. Shows or films which rely solely on twists or surprises to provide interest are not very strong stories and utilise a cheap trick to get you to 'enjoy' the film. They try to make you confuse the surprise and shock with quality and remember the moment rather than the whole experience and the whole story.
Some people had issues with the final episode or Breaking Bad (no spoilers here btw) because there was no grand twist or surprise. Instead the show played out to it's natural ending that seemed set-up in the episodes before that. People who viewed the final episode in the context of the whole show and as an ending to the entire story appreciated it a lot, lot more. |

Can't get into Breaking Bad or Game Of Thrones. I guess the hype got on my nerves and I was bored of both of them before I'd even seen them.
Hell On Wheels is where it's at! It's the only programme that has had me gripped after Dexter and An American Horror Story, yet nobody seems to have heard of it.

"Breaking Bad is soooooo over rated in my humble opinion !! I suggest Mad Men, Broadwalk Empire or at a push the vastly under estimated Peeky Blinders!"
Breaking Bad is next on my list now that I've seen all of the "24" seasons once again on Netflix, plus the latest of these set in London(which was a bit of a cheat with only 12 episodes).
I also really enjoyed Mad Men and you're right about Peeky Blinders too....excellent and British too. |

The true story part is just a little joke, it's not really true. They're just copying the film of Fargo which has that at the beginning of the film too even though it's not true either.
As for American Horror story, it's filming it's 4th season right now. It's set in a carnival freak show. |

Breaking Bad is one of those rare productions that will be remembered for decades to come. Yes it does start off a bit slow but it's superbly well written, it's well shot with some really good filming/photography, the cast are so well chosen and fit the characters so well. The way the characters develop throughout the series is just genius. It's brilliant on so many levels. Like a good whiskey or wine you need to let the taste develop to fully appreciate its brilliance. Watch it, you will not be disappointed. |

Yeah i'd definitely say the film is worth watching. You actually see where the money in the series comes from too so it's like the tv series is a sequel to the film except without any of the same characters. The money is the item which links the two stories. I hope that will be the same for any more series of Fargo, someone finds the money each series and it sets off the new story. That would be pretty cool.
So yeah, basically if you enjoyed the series then you'll probably enjoy the film lol |
