Wish it was the Algarve! Aberdeenshire

What the hell is it with going outside at the moment. I was in the garden fully clothed may I add, for 10 minutes tops. Low and behold now sitting here with bites all over me, midges I expect. The worst think is I now look like I have chicken pox on my tits. 2 on my nipple, OMG they are itchy, going about with a perminant hard nipple now. Wheres the worst place you've been bitten by a midge. I mention midge just incase it starts getting rude, oh hang on it probably will.

Flying off on a tangent, Do people still administer lovebites aka hickies on neck anymore, or is this regarded as teenage phenomena?

Liskeard

I get bitten every damn summer, I've tried the Avon stuff, it didn't work for me.

Now I smother myself in citronella and carry anti histamine cream and tablets,

The worse one was a few days a go. A bloody horse fly as I was driving, bit me on the hand. I had to drive to a chemist.. Rush in and demand some cream then thrust my rapidly swelling hand in her face and say look!!!

Worse place to be bit.. On the bum.. Lol it's hard to not scratch at it.

Natural remedies include rubbing a cold metal spoon on the bite ASAP.

Always take some citronella candles with you in the car. If you wander outside for a 'break' you have extra protection to deter them - if its night, it helps you see what/who youre doing. Some are tea light size, so dont take much room up.

And if you do get bitten get one of the 'zap it' gadgets to stop the itching - they really do work, as long as you haven't already scratched it.

Apple cider vinegar is also great on bites.

As for repellents, whatever you buy make sure it's Deet based....

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I've had several and the blasted things have all swelled up, gone purple and itched like hell.

They're no longer itchy but 3 weeks later they're all still very visible and obvious. They look a bit like bruises now and the tops have gone crusty ick!

My Ice Castle! South Wales

Just seen this on the net might help some

Lavender has many qualities. I personally like it as an insect repellent for 2 reasons: it can be used neat on adult skin (most essential oils have to be diluted), meaning I only have to carry a 10ml bottle around with me; and it is also useful to apply on the insect bites, yet again reducing the amount I have to carry. You don't have to use the essential oil though, rubbing the flowers between the hands will release the aroma, or use a lavender eau de cologne.
