not going to lie ive always thought im going to hate being old, all the girls my age are going to have white hair and gravity is going to take its tole, but after being on this site and having a little browse, ive seen some decent looking oldies out there witch has made me more happy about getting older haha |

I suppose it would make sense if an axe was used to chop the potatoes, there would be an excess of force applied thusly a lot of the chips would be sent flying upward. |

The most likely source of the expression seems to be this.
The phrase 'a chip on one's shoulder' is reported as originating with the nineteenth century U.S. practice of spoiling for a fight by carrying a chip of wood on one's shoulder, daring others to knock it off. |
