The olde English definition of Slough is the inside bend of the river where all the crap collects. That about sums the place really.
The surrounding areas in royal Berkshire, Siuth Bucks and Surrey are fantastic |

"I lived in Berkshire for 11 years and loved it
Born and raised there.
"
I'd happily go and live there again but like being back up North. Cheshire is a very nice alternative |

"Slough is diverse, industrial & not particularly pleasant but by no means the worse place to live.
Windsor however is lovely a little biased I maybe!"
A resident of lower slough? |

"Noo it's a right dive , would recommend either Windsor, taplow or burnham which are just outside which are much nicer. "
Agree with this ^^
areas surrounding slough are lovely, good employment prospects and close enough to London to commute but far enough away from the everyday hustle of the city. |

Hah, don't get me wrong - Reading holds a special place in my heart but I don't think it can be compared to Bray or the nice areas of Maidenhead! |

i moved to britwell in slough as a kid and did very well.. however it was classed as one of the roughest areas...
every place has bad and good areas... at the end of the day its the people around you that determine the good and the bad... take note of your neighbours and you can find an oasis anywhere.
i only moved as i had a bad day at work and stuck a pin in a map "!!

Maidenhead is an improvement on Slough and not as expensive as Windsor, Taplow, etc.
Burnham used to be ok too, a little more expensive than Slough.
Avoid the Britallfield, I think its called, estate that is a violent area of Slough.
If I had too it would be Maidenhead or Burnham.

true but I meant as in east reading woodley, lower early, winnersh, Wokingham etc
Woodley + Wokingham was voted in top 5 best places to live for opportunity and standard of living |

I wouldn't advocate a move to Slough as the best place to live in Britain but it's certainly not the worst & it depends on why you want to move from where you currently live.
Like I've said employment prospects are pretty good especially in the IT/ Pharma sector, a few household names have their head offices there. It also has accessible links to the city, the UK's major airport & motorway networks. Also 1 1/2 hrs from the seaside

Yes , good balance of argument from Classey here, that's all true. But you don't have to go far from Slough to find much nicer places to live. |
