So, someone said to me that they work closely with the police, catching unlicensed and uninsured drivers. Good job too!

What followed really alarmed me though. I was given the inside information that most of the offenders were Muslim. I asked how they know that the perpetrators are Muslim?! I was informed that they all had red spots (bindis) on their foreheads or wore turbans!

I put them right, but it really shocked me that someone in this day and age was that ignorant.

Have you been shocked by sheer ignorance of folk?

One has to question the vetting criteria and procedures of said employers of such employees.

What an idiot! It's funny he thinks that they're all Muslims when bindis are actually Hindu attire and turbans are traditionally Sikh attire! I had a conversation with a friend about something similar yesterday, all Asian or brown people being called p*kis...I got called it last week after being told I was fit by a fella and then I got closer and his mate saw my skin colour! Absolute ignorant, uneducated, uncultured fools! It's ridiculous that racism still exists but it's something that will never die out unfortunately...as with a lot of other isms!

The employer is a sub-contractor. I'm just bemused to be honest that people in this country are that poorly educated.

I explained that bindi are worn by Hindus and turbans are largely worn by Sikhs but also worn by some Muslims AND Christians around the world. I was met by a scoff and an 'I couldn't care less' attitude which just affirmed what I already knew about said person.

Nothing is restricted to any one religion or country BUT on the religion front, bindis are traditionally worn by Hindus. Am I right or wrong? I've worn a bindi with an Indian outfit but not for religious reasons, just cos it matched the look I was going for!

This is true, but it is certainly not indicative of a Muslim woman and is traditionally worn by Hindus.

And that comment (I know it wasn't you nicecouple) is offensive to Muslims, who are peaceful for the most part. You just can't judge a huge group of people on a small percentagemof their populations actions. If you were to do that then every religion, race and nationality would be judged the same because every religion, race and nationality has extremists within it.

I'm surprised (but shouldn't be any more) by the sheer level of ignorance of supposedly intelligent people, nevermind the ones who revel in being thick. We live in a deliberately dumbed-down tabloid driven world-where people don't know or care about the things that should matter, but can tell you what some Z-list nonentity off TOWIE had for breakfast. And you wonder how the politicians get away with it? Look at our media.

Unfortunately this is true and more than likely there would be more wars and more hate in the world if we judged everyone and everything in that way because the extremist minority that interpret things very differently to the majority unfortunately do make many people who may or may not even be remotely interested in religion more ignorant and negative!

My friend is a teacher in Sunderland. She organised a trip to a Sikh temple and a cathedral last year as part of an RE lesson. There were about 5 kids who couldn't go because their parents refused, on the grounds that they were 'sick of all this pandering to Muslims' and their children might be somehow turned into Islamic militants. The mind boggles

Really. I know a man who fought in the second world war who laughs every time he tells people how he and another man burned a Japanese soldier alive. Neither of them is right and neither representative of their kind.

We would be foolish to ignore the radicalisation of Muslims but attitudes like this encourage it I fear.

My point in posting that was to illustrate that it is not only Muslims who can be extreme in their actions or their ability to hate someone because of their race or religion and that the actions of a minority do not represent the majority of any race, religion or country.

I see them as two different things personally, to me not knowing is just that but ignorance is not willing to be informed or gain more knowledge about something because minds are already made up, not wanting to learn more about something and be educated about it but just go with the sheep and repeat whatever they hear on the news because the news is always right and not biased in any way at all...pfft!

I mean I don't know the context if the conversation but I have to look for some good in people. Maybe the knowledge just wasn't there.

Not knowing and ignorance are the same thing - a lack of knowledge or understanding. I did not imply willfull ignorance.

The definition of ignorance is not knowing. How you interpret it is up to you, but I didn't think this man was intentionally ignorant, just a moron who chose not to educate himself about different cultures.

Hadith of Mercy (Rahma)

Salam… . “The merciful are shown mercy by the All-Merciful. Have mercy to those on earth, and the Lord of the Heavens will have mercy upon you.”.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The above is the first thing every student of Islamic scared knowledge was thought and still do its a chain of transmission past down to generation to generation to pass on and be merciful with people. These so called Muslims who say killing is allowed, suicide attacks etc and say they how studyed Islam and say there the right and the rest are wrong you ask them what first thing you studyed or your teacher teached you won't be the above as they are brainwashed am on about people in the UK young lads its a shame like the guy who killed the soldier give the rest a bad name they are like poison in the community.

There's plenty of ignorance, stupidity and lack of personal motivation to change those elements that can be changed around us. If someone really has low intelligence levels I am much more accepting than wilful ignorance and disinterest. Worse still are those wilfully promoting lies that they know are untrue and can hurt. Being happy as a pig in shit is not a bad thing when there are limits to what pigs are permitted to learn.

"So, someone said to me that they work closely with the police, catching unlicensed and uninsured drivers.

Yes especially on this site."

"Obvious isn't it, I also know a few men who are Muslim who cheered and laughed at the butchery

Really. I know a man who fought in the second world war who laughs every time he tells people how he and another man burned a Japanese soldier alive. Neither of them is right and neither representative of their kind.

We would be foolish to ignore the radicalisation of Muslims but attitudes like this encourage it I fear."

Yes the soldier that laughs about that has lost some of his humanity which can

Happen, if he was a captured japanese soldier when

It happened he should have been held for

A war crime they were (bloody times as any war is) and can have an (effect on the

Human mind) but its the extremists and

Radicals who like to start things going

Here perhaps more so because we help

The americans out too Its there way of

Getting back at us quite sad really when you see the bigger picture.

Look at our media."

I can see this maybe being said as banter between friends, I still don't like it though!

My long term fuck buddy is black and he has a lot of racial banter with his mates but I have to say it makes me awfully uncomfortable!

Out of interest - what context would racially abusing someone ever be funny?

me too in the community - the service users are amazed at the difference in some carers - only takes the odd one to give us a bad name which we already have in the eyes of so many

"Are we not mistaking ignorance for uneducated? "

Yes!

Ignorance ( as someone tried to explain above ) means not to know ...not aware of.

People misuse 'ignorant' in many ways. They think it means bad manners or rude or uncaring.

I am very ignorant of the local bus timetables because I don't use the buses. The trains on the other hand

If you say to someone who is ignorant of what ignorant means that they are ignorant of a fact they think you mean they are rude dullards..... I do like irony though .....tis funny at times.

I used to work for a vehicle recovery company in Leeds (owned by Indians) we had the police contract to remove untaxed uninsured no mot no licensed vehicles. The police activity target Asian areas because a higher margin of Asian cars are not insured etc. Not racist it's a fact

It's ridiculous that racism still exists but it's something that will never die out unfortunately...as with a lot of other isms!"
