Do you mean 'mark as unread' like you can with emails? 
I can see it now! The forums awash with threads saying "my message was read, then unread, then read again - and still the rude bastards haven't replied!"

Ha ha I know but it's horrible to keep deleting on people at least no thankyou. I mean if could switch it in date order then people wouldn't feel so ignored? Lol |

Wouldn't that make conversations tricky?
You reply to the oldest message as it's at the top now - they then message back - but it's right at the bottom!
Why not just check mail more often and have a nice tidy inbox? Delete those going nowhere, keep the possibles and also - if you're a site supporter - delete all but the most recent in a chain as you can see the whole conversation from the most recent message!
