I'm working from home, but am currently heading into town to do some retail therapy  "
all 3 have various pro's and cons.. financial or the hours of work so have to weigh them up.
Im a HCA by 'trade' (if you can call it that) but he offered me a Domestic job with hours that are flexible to accommodate me taking my child to school and picking her up.. and the 3rd is an Activities Coordinator to entertain the clients within the home which id love too. That's less money but flexible with hours.
Id get most satisfaction from being a HCA or the Activities Coordinator as i really am all about person centered care.
Guess i'm flexible. Tough choice. They are gonna have a chat among themselves and see which job they think i would best suit and which role is needed more

No but i did explain my physical health and was completely honest about it. He said id not employ you to fail and promised id never work a 12 hour shift. More days but fewer hours would be my best working potential |

i left for a few reasons but feel im mentally and physically ready to go back,, thyroid is getting there and ive that lust for life again. Looking back i was drained and dull.
TSH levels are still shockingly abnormal (234) but id not contemplate returning if it was likely to end in failure, i want this and i can do it.
My Dr suggested i signed onto ESA but was adamant i could work.. thought of not working horrified me to be honest. |

Yes I know what you mean, an employer that will take you on knowing all the facts is hard to come by. As it will only be short term, he will probably be able to employ two people to do one job like job share. |

Not very much i dont think,, id be happy with scrubbin loo's, changing bed pans or reading the bible to people. Each job has different pro's and con's
Beggers cant be choosers. Its a great team and to be back in the work environment will be wonderful. Supporting my family is the main thing |

UPDATE... had a phone call a moment ago and i got the job i deep down wanted.. Activities CoOrdinator :D
Brand new job role to me so will be a huge learning curve but i'm certainly all about people and the more fun side of the care profession
Can not wait to get my teeth stuck into it .
If anyone has any tips or work in homes where activities for the older generation happen id love to hear about what works |

We did a show for the elderly with a sing a long at the end. They loved it. Some were confined to wheelchairs but still clapped along,some tapped their feet and some had a little boogie. I think movement along with an activity is the best for cheering people up even if it's small movements. If there's a garden area you could have them planting seedlings in pots and they can watch them grow |

Listen to the people you are working with, expect ups and downs and don't give it up when things get difficult as commitment is important to an employer. |

One tip, don't get a stage hypnotist in to do an exhibition. One time that happened, she was just putting them all under the 'fluence, telling them they were relaxed, incredibly relaxed, sleepy even, beginning to drowse and now under her control, when she dropped her pendant and without thinking she said 'shit' very loudly.
Apparently it took 2 weeks to get the place cleaned up....

Although not a direct comparison due to the age difference but ive always wanted to work in childcare, (was looking at volunteering at the school to help with children read) and i can see a lot of similarities with regards to activities the two age groups share.
Drawing/Painting
Gardening
Baking
Board Games
Reading/Poetry
Music/Film
Animals (PAT tested)
Thinking of inviting schools up to sing
Staff carol service to sing for the users (they will hate me at first but love the idea eventually )
Knitting/Textiles
Of course it depends on the individuals who are physically able to participate in such activities,
Of course time spend with those who are restricted in communication and physical abilities will not be forgotten, I have to stimulate those too and some ace ideas for a sensory room (i get a monthly budget and can fund raise for the home)
My minds just running over time right now due to me being STUPIDLY excited.. |

Congratulations.
I am sure there is a whole host of tried and tested things on the usual care forums. I find some of them a bit bizarre but I'm not living in a care home.
The previous activities co-ordinator at my mother's home got us all getting a memory journal together/life story. That took up time, especially showing her the pictures to include.

some of our service users already have dogs/cats but would deffo look into it.
of course its about finding out what the users would like to do and not about me forcing them into doing things theyve no interest in |
