Well being an Indian male I've pretty much grown up always eating a variety of Indian dishes both meat and veg.
However, I went out for a meal recently and I didn't know what to order as there was so many options. I even had to ask the waiter to explain to me the differences between certain dishes as there are so many varieties!!
Usually, I keep it simple and go with a Lamb Madras or a Lamb Karahi....
So whats your favourite Indian dish? |

Chicken sag wala, bombay potatoes and garlic nan
Although the best (and spiciest!!) Indian food I have had was after a d*unken night at twickers. My dad recommended the place. There isn't much choice but what there is is amazing!! He forgot to tell me to specify I wanted mild though!!
Think it's called lahori or something like that. |

There's a restaurant in Leicester that serves your food 'Indian hot' or 'English hot' |

So many Indian dishes here, a few friends in India and Pakistan have never heard of
So I really wouldn't have a clue what to suggest!!
(Hey.. when was the last time you saw an Indian guy ordering from a curry house?? If you do - thats the one to go to!)
Really depends what you like to eat. Mild? Spicy? Hot? Fruity? (ooer) I would suggest trying somewhere with an open kitchen you can see. A lot will happily tell you whats what, and you can get spices tweaked up or down or certain ingredients removed (I always get mine to leave the coriander out) |

Any Lamb dishes for me yum yum. Living in Glasgow we are spoiled for choice with a large Indian community. I have visited India many times and can vouch for the excellence of our local restaurants |

Haven't cooked my own for ages. Learned from an Indian years ago.. cook down an onion and ginger base.. takes over a day of slow cooking (and stinke the house out), then portioning it off, freezing it, and when I am ready to have a curry the next day, spicing the mix as required for whatever curry I fancy and cooking that all day.. ready for the next day |

Not Indian - but the best restaurants in Hong Kong aren't the tourist spots - but the ones the locals use - with plastic garden furniture, bin bags as table cloths and bowls of boiling water to rinse your plate/ cutlery that the locals use, usually attached to markets and where they bring 'the food' out for you to meet whilst it's still alive for you to choose!
*obviously not the beef!

I must say, some great responses! I've even had to google a few of the dishes myself to check them out.
I am planning a visit to India very soon and I am looking forward to eating the local foods.
Been watching Rick Stein's India on BBC, some of the food looks great |

Sheekh kebab, onion bhaji, chicken karahi, lamb jalfrezi
Bombay aloo, pilau rice, and a naan are the staples but I like to try the chefs recommendations when I go somewhere new.
My Indian friends used to take me to Lahore on the commercial road where they ordered lamb by weight. That was where I got the taste for sheekh kebabs too |

I don't eat a lot of Indian food as I'm not keen on hot and spicy or strong garlic tasting food.
I do like creamy mild curries so chicken korma for me.
I absolutely love Indian sweets though |

Ohhh this thread it making me hungry! X
My 'usual' order would be vegetable Kashmir (I ask madras hot) with a garlic paratha ....
....but best of all is cooking Indian food! Most recently dish was just a chickpea, potato and cashew curry but with my own spicing including my favourite ingredient ..... black onion seed! It was delish xxx
I'm not veggie, just often prefer veggie dishes unless the meat is well raised and reputable etc xx |

What? You only eat veggie curry unless it's verified by a meat! |

"My favourite is a a lamb masala on the bone.
The bone gives the food extra flavour.
Chicken korma and chicken tika masala ... Pishswarie name "
Never been a fan of the peshwari nan. I find it too sweet.
I prefer the thin chappaties. |
