medieval re-enactment

We've been medieval re-enactors for a few years now and we've had several fun evenings with other re-enactors in our tent after hours, yet we never see them, or mention of re-enactment on Fab, so were wondering, is anyone else on here also into medieval re-enactment?

Back in time would be a good start

Used to do Viking re-enactments and am still interested in doing it but short on time.

finding a group to join is easy enough - when you know where to look.

I've never really thought about it and to be honest assumed all those who did would be terrified of swinging and anything sexual so that myth is busted.

I used to be in ECWS loved it. Went Civil War as the kit for medieval was more expensive.

No, but I'm into cosplay (not the kinky stuff).

Find it a lot of fun.

Many have seen my pic of me in my stormtrooper outfit.

I like cosplay full stop, and am Rada trained so able to play any role, sorry radox trained, in the bath with my duck and other actors. Id love some wild characters from the past to whip up some frenzied crowd scenes and physical engagement. Stocks can have multiple uses when locked into them, of course.

Brighton - even Hove!

I like going to see them. Seen Romans, Saxons, medieval people, civil war and second world war. I think I prefer medieval in a proper setting.

Did WoTR for over ten years, great fun and only a few broken ribs/dislocated joints!

The Tewkesbury event is loony toons time, everyone is hyped up for the fight and it can get hairy in there at times.

Medieval kit is damned expensive though, its all made to measure by hand so it costs, really costs!

Had some good times though, may go back to my old group to do some of the roleplay/murder mystery events they do as ive still got all my soft kit. I enjoy that far more than the fighting nowadays as there is far more audience involvement - plus the battles got really dull.

Also the ego's involved in the fighting are not pleasant to be around.

it certainly is expensive but at least it prevents just anybody buying weapons & armour then just wading in with no training. That said, Tewkesbury is still one of the more dangerous events - but still a 'must do' event for us. Besides, due to the numbers there, we get more chances of after hours fun there too

Problem with Tewks is not only the different organisations with different training levels and allowed target areas, but also the fact that the organisers allow complete WANG groups with bugger all skills to join in.

Add to that the fact they allow groups from different medieval periods & it becomes a farce.

Its a Mid C15th battle, ive faced C12th knights, leather-clad wangheads with LARP swords and on one memorable occasion even a Moorish warrior!

I knocked one female spear carrier to the ground because she kept aiming for my knees. After the 3rd time of pointing out this was expressly banned in the rules of the event (the ones you all read & agree to) and a final warning, i hooked her weapon with my bill & shouldered her off her feet.

Also, the amount of head shots at Tewks really is atrocious.

Having said that, it is fun to point out (literally) why late Norman-period armour (maille) has no place on a C15th battlefield - the agonised looks you get when your mate hooks their shield away and you hit them in the stomach with your bill is pretty funny!
