Boxing promoter Frank Maloney is to undergo a sex change operation and live as a woman called Kellie.
The twice-married dad of three, 61, claims the bombshell decision became a matter of life and death.
From the background he comes from this must have been a very brave decision.
Good luck to him. |

"Why was it life and death?"
I was wondering that too. I came up with the theory that he is wanted by a gentlemanly mobster who wont nobble women! But that couldn't be right could it? |

"Why was it life and death?" Being Transsexual woman, incures a lifetime of suffering from Gender Disorder. You hide it and fight it, but eventually it emerges, if you can't deal with it, one commits suicide, it is that bad.

I read this earlier today.
I can't believe that this was the person who refused to campaign in Camden in 2010 because there were too many gay people in the borough.
She must have been going through some serious mental anguish.
I wish her all the luck in the world. |

"I thought it sounded like an off-the-shelf kit, a bit like a George Forman grill. "
The thing is, gender dysphoria isn't much of a
joke when you suffer from it. |

I find having a sense of humour about one's self helps with all sort of conditions.
After having spent time with people who were born disabled in Africa, I've given up feeling sorry for myself completely and learned to laugh at myself instead... trust me, it's much better.

What is the history of this kind of thing?
How far back does it go?
What I mean is did this used to happen in the days of Henry 8th, maybe even earlier.
I ask because I often compare it to other things and I find myself asking 'How would they of managed in such n such a time'. |

If you had to live through it you would understand, that you ask the question means it is unlikely that you could ever understand.
I have known several people who have committed suicide because of the stress that this condition causes. For many people there are two options, transition or suicide. And, yes, I have considered the latter option more than once.
Consider yourself lucky not to have to live through such a situation. |

Try looking at some ancient Egyptian history, Greek, Roman, Japanese; you will find that transgenderism has existed throughout history whatever it has been called or however it has been regarded. |

not sure that 'popular' is the term I would use however for those who have this condition maybe as we become more 'open minded' in society in general it will be seen as not an issue with some and the folks with he condition will be able to live as they are without the tittle tattle sniggering that some in society seem to have about such issue's..
how long that will take however is another debate.. |
