Is 'attractive' a general term or is it something specific to a person?

After looking at many profiles, i've noticed some which say things along the line of 'don't message unless you are attractive'
And it occurred to me how pointless writing something like that on your profile is, as what one person finds attractive, another does not. And how does that person know if they're attractive to the person they're messaging unless they message them and draw attention to their pic/profile in the first place! haha.
So this got me thinking, is the word 'attractive' a word which can be an umbrella term and used regardless of if you actually find yourself liking that specific person, but they still have some kind of 'quality' which can be deemed attractive in a universal kind of way.
Or can attractive only be used when you specifically like someone. and have an attraction to them? |

i think sterotypes are there for a reason so that when generalizing we can use the term to build up an idea of what someone is like.
Totally agree with your point about we all find different things attractive, but beauty of varying levels can be generalized to a stereotypical type of attractive.
eg if there were 100 men/women infront of us and we all had to label them as attractive or not, id be certain roughly 80% of the answers would be the same of who the public generally found attractive or not.. |

 you can have a very good looking person with a very ugly personality. Attractive isn't just about being good looking, it's the whole package...or it is for me anyway  |

There's a consensus on what 'attractive' normally is, but I can say 'I find him extremely attractive' for entirely other reasons.
You can even perceive that eg a face is not conventionally attractive, and yet find it hugely attractive regardless. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

sort of think your right because a lot of men on here who other women find good looking I don't. some people like katy price everyone would find attractive because certain looks are attractive to the majority. |
