Look at a profile, then see that you "mailed" each other a few days ago or like a week ago and have no recollection of it?
I keep coming across profiles and think "wow this lady is stunning. On we spoke 5 days ago? What the hell did we speak about?"

I get this in person a lot. Everyone I meet remembers me, but I've a terrible memory for anything useful like who I've spent a night hitting the pubs with, so often have to play at working out who this person is. It's a bit awkward at times.  |

So if they change their avatars often? 
I do wonder when I see that on profiles too but my system is that if I don't remember, then it would've been me sending a polite "decline" message in response to theirs  |

All the time....it doesn't really bother me too much because if they were someone I wanted to persue then id still be chatting to them

Yes, and sometimes it drives me insane if I can't remember a conversation and they're telling me I said this and that and the other so they clearly HAVE been talking to me!! I usually save a message if I decide I'd like to 'talk' further, so I can remind myself.
But if I haven't saved a message I think 'Ooh I obviously decided this guy was a no no, but I can't remember why!!'and I get very cagey!!

One man got a bit stroppy with me when I really couldn't remember a conversation. I could see from his profile that I hadn't messaged him previously and told him he must have the wrong person, then he told me it was under my previous profile about 18 months ago
I didn't realise my chats were so memorable |
