Took my lad who's 3 to the zoo today and we went to the animal encounters talk. The chap bought around a snake which my boy had round his neck, no problem, then a lizard which we stroked then out came a feckin great hairy chile rose tarantula.

I was hiding at the back of the room while my boy held the spider and had his picture taken.

Yup, I'm a wuss

I loved it,, we went to an animal encounter thing last month. I thought id shit a brick as house spiders arent my fave thing in the world,, but this was a 'proper' animal so was alright with holding it.

So delicate and light.. only £14.50 to buy one.. was looking at them today at the pet store

Daughter asked for a brother , so i bought her another goldfish

I'm with you on this one. I love snakes, and most animals for that matter. I am no fan of spiders however. They creep me out.

See I don't get this fear of spiders, fair enough if it's a poisonous one that could kill you....I'd stay away too. But a house spider?

Think i got my fear from my mum as she gets the shakes and freezes on the spot when confronted with one..

Since being a parent i was determined not to have the same thing happen to my child so try to embrace them.. I call them all 'George' and talk to them. Im shitting my pants internally but on the surface to my child hopefully she thinks im just being silly.

I recommend fire. There is never too much fire when it comes to spiders.

The guy asked me if I was gonna hold it, my reply was I'm not coming within 10 feet of it without a flame thrower

I'm the same. Love them. Wasn't even afraid of them in Australia, just very very cautious. Red backs are amongst the worst. Fatal. And my friend often gets them in her porch along with a family of geckos.

Spiders are not animals at all. They are the manifest offspring which result from the orgy of everything evil in the universe. I'm certain the Catholic church should be protecting humanity by Exorcising the spawn from the face of the planet, and I'm not even Catholic
