I know. Dreading it as I still love smoking, but my health comes first and my funds and social life second and third. I've tried a few times this year already and the pros were amazing, but the cons were awful. Breathing pure air was like taking hallucinogens lol

I quit over a year ago and believe me, it gets easier.I got myself an app on my phone where you type in the date, time and how many you smoked. It then tells you, daily, how your body's recovering and how much money you've saved.I found it really helpful and motivational.

I'd stay away from the e-cigs though.People who quit the same time as I did and went on them are still on them and rather dependant. In work they go out for a fix the same time as they used to go out smoking, it's a crutch but seems to be a long term one.Go cold turkey. It's hard to begin with but ultimately the best way to do it.You will, like I did, kick yourself for not doing this years ago.And no cutting down or weekend fags either. They lead you straight back to smoking eventually.Good luck

Herts

I went cold turkey 7 months ago and can honestly say I have never felt better.

No wheezing, no shakes, no overnight coughing fits. I used to work out before anyway so my lung capacity was never TERRIBLE but you do feel a difference, it takes much longer to get out of breath and in general, I just feel...CLEANER.

I found it pretty easy but to be honest, I only used to smoke roll-ups.

I stopped 16 months ago,I kept telling myself that if I had one I would want another one and I didn't want to start day 1 of not smoking again,it worked because I have stayed off them and feel great

Keep up the good work, life is so much better without being a slave to when you have to have your next cigarette

My dad gave up smoking last Feb on the day he had a heart attack, he then had another heart attack in April on his birthday, later on that month he had to have a quadruple by pass!!

He's all ok now, and hasn't had one cig since, hes done brilliant staying off them, he done it cold turkey, probably cause he got the fright of his life

So I'd urge anyone to give them up before its too late

...Up on the Downs

I was a total addict for many years, had terriblke withdrawl if I tried to give up. But I went on the NHS course a few years back and took Zyban, and it was a walk in the park, no willpower involved!

Just remember one cigarette and you're back to square one. It takes six weeks apparently for the physical addiction to pass. Good luck!
