I have a mate I have known since we were kids, he has always had a problem with his weight. At the moment he is not interested in losing weight, just drinking and going to the pub.
Am I being a mate by sticking my nose in and telling him he needs to lose some weight, I have recently put on weight and hate the shortness of breath and the loss of suppleness so I know what it feel like.
I have joked about him doing some badminton, he mentions he is no fit state to play as he would have a heart attack. He has been on several of the milkshake diet to lose weight but he put more back on.
do I say something to him or not?? |

I think he already realises from what you have said
Badminton might be too energetic for him at the moment, maybe suggest something less strenuous and away from the gym to start with like brisk long walks or cycling together so you can motivate each other |

just be a friend to him. no one can make him lose weight.
I ave had family members tell me to my face to lose weight. i have lost friends and family to health conditions i have that are weight related but until i was ready to face and embrace the challenge none of that hit home.
while i am still overweight i can run 10k non stop now, something i couldnt dream of doing last year and i aim to go further.
have you considered asking why he has put on the weight? |

First thing is embark on your own fitness/weight loss plan and when he asks why you don't want to go boozing all the time let him know you are concerned about your health and suggest he may think about it |

The other week I saw a comedian who said he realised he needed to lose weight when he went back to his home town. Within 5 minutes of getting off his train, he received a text message from a mate, saying, 'Hey, Pete, I've just seen a fat version of you stood outside the train station.'
Perhaps you could engineer something similar? |

Thanks for the advice, every bit helps. We have known each other since we were 3 months old, it is funny we still can't say certain things to each other. |
