There is one song that I don't care for in the least. I don't know the name, but it was played at the funeral of a school friend who died at a very young age. When we were leaving the funeral, my friend turned the wireless on and that actual song was being played. I've never been able to hear it since.

Songs bring back memories such as funerals and weddings or break ups so of course it brings up different emotions and sadness or happiness is a few of those emotions which can lead you to cry...it's nothing to be ashamed of or makes you weak

You know that's NOT the song written about the death of his son don't you. It was actually written for a film (Lorenzo's Oil) before the death of his son.

The song he wrote about his sons death is called The Circus Has Left Town.

I don't think he's disrespecting anyone, just putting his point across. I've never cried because of a song, probably because I haven't had any bad events in my life that were associated with a particular song. I'm not saying I never will cry because of a piece of music, I just haven't yet.

I cry at a lot of music, as I'm a softy.

Two particular ones are:- Wired by Athlete as it's about a baby born prematurely and brings back memories of that experience.

And Carry you Home by James Blunt. Brings back memories of my Mums illness :-

As strong as you were, tender you go.

I'm watching you breathing for the last time.

A song for your heart, but when it is quiet,

I know what it means and I'll carry you home.

Even seeing those lyrics starts me off!

Songs don't make me per se, but they can evoke memories.

Sacrifice by Elton John: it was always playing in the baby intensive care unit when I visited my son. It's been 24 years and I still struggle when I hear it.

Dance with my father by Luther Vandross: I was on the bus driving past Tesco in Brixton, a shop my parents used for many years before they moved to Preston in 1988 when the song came on my ipod. I could picture my parents and I did feel sad.

Lately by Stevie Wonder: no matter how happy I am, just the opening bars make me feel melancholy: they have from the very first time I heard it...have no idea why!

There's a verse in an old Tom Waits song from Blue Valentine called Kentucky Avenue. It's a childhood nostalgia thing about the crazy shit kids get up to in the suburbs.

It starts out kinda funny, kinda gross, and you get the feeling that he's singing from the perspective of that dirty kid from the wrong side of the tracks and he's singing about the stuff you'd get up to with him.

And then it gets to this verse where you realise there's a heartbreaking tragedy underlining it all, like only breaking the rules makes up for all of the horrible shit kids experience.

Listen to it, I always highly recommend classic Tom Waits to the broadminded.

Blackburn/Preston

God there are so many that make me blub...

Lonestar-amazed, Bon jovi-always...songs that I used to share with someone special and remind me of him.

Evanescence-my immortal, Tracy chapman-still I cry, James blunt-goodbye my lover, lonestar-not a day goes by, puff daddy-I'll be missing you...snogs that helped me get through losing my best friend/soulmate forever and are still helping me 6 years later.

Johnny cash-hurt, the script-if you could see me now, Eric Clapton-tears in heaven...songs that make me wonder.

Tracy chapman-remember the tinman, Christina aguilera-the voice within and hurt, Adele-hiding my heart, Kelly clarkson-because of you, Jessie j-who you are...songs that helped me overcome broken trust, inadequacy and just plain evil done by a parent and then an ex husband that I regrettably gave my heart to after the loss of my ex.

Music/songs/lyrics got me through the lowest points in my life more than anyone's support did, it's amazing how many emotions can be stirred up by one line of a song. To conclude, I'm slightly fucked up, cry at tons of songs but I'm a happy swinger! Haha! At least we can laugh afterwards eh!

"already there....westlife

first time i heard it was hours after my husband died and I had to tell the kids what had happened. the following words always get me

A little voice came on the phone

Said daddy when you coming home

He said the first thing that came to his mind

Im already there

Take a look around

Im the sunshine in your hair

Im the shadow on the ground

Im the whisper in the wind

Im your imaginary friend

And I know Im in your prayers

Oh Im already there

"

Although it's exactly the same song and lyrics, lonestars version gets me so much more...beautiful song

For Me it's Pink Floyd's - Shine on you crazy diamond BUT!! only from the Pulse live set. Not the Wish You Were Here album.

Gets me every time. Worse after a glass of wine lol.

It makes me think of my father (an excellent musician) who sees me as a dead person who he doesn't want to know.

and for Mrs it's Ave Maria as long as the rendition is good.

The sheer emotions in the song just do it.

Xxx

It's not a sad song but it has a special if somewhat tragic meaning to me.

Yep

Songs that just move me emotionally:

Kate bush n Peter Gabriel 'don't give up'

Evanescence 'my immortal' as someone else mentioned

George Michael kissing a fool, you have been loved, cowboys and angels, mothers pride (particularly poignant given we're commemorating wwi at mo)

"There is a Welsh Hymn that always makes me cry - Arglwydd Dyma Fi

This its by cerys matthews i think"

No, it's an old hymn - she does a version of it though.

It's a good shout by Legs though - it's a very beautiful, simple song.

Two for me are:

Nick Cave - Into my Arms

Curtis Mayfield - The Makings of You

This'll sound cheesy, but I've always hopef that one day I'll have someone in my life really special and I'll be able to relate the beautiful words in those songs to them.

Two really gorgeous pieces of music.
