"I'm watching a cracking one at the moment. I won't say which, but I will say Four million dollars through a traffic jam
What other movie chases are good? "
Nothing in recent years because they're mostly littered with CGI and car destroying jumps.
Ronin is possibly the only exception.
Give me the fun ones like Smokey And The Bandit any day. |

Love the carnage that's caused in the one during bad boys 2
There's a great one in The Bourne Identity.
Love a good car chase. And anything with exploding helicopters. |

Anyone of the original dukes of hazard car chases. It was a good job Daisy was in that show otherwise that impressionable horny teenager might have taken another path. |

"The one in Bullitt with Steve McQueen was a corker."
Probably the best car chase sequence in cinematic history
Gone in 60 seconds has an awesome one when Nicolas Cage steals "Eleanor" |

The Blues Brothers chase is comical. The film I'm watching now I've finished the Italian job has a bit of a car chase.
This one is a bus with a snow plough on the front being chased to an aerodrome, but it isn't so good. |

That was absolute crap compared to the original. It's well worth a look on YouTube. The blues brothers trashed more cars than any other. Driver with warren Beattie is good too.
Another great chase and a cult classic is vanishing point starring Barry Newman (petrocelli) a great ending and got me tuned in to Dodge Challengers.
Bullitt was the original chase and was good but doesn't stand up to scrutiny with too many errors magic hubcaps and the green beetle)
Another good chase film is Duel starring Dennis Weaver. spielbergs first ever full length effort.
Gene Hackmans French connection also gets an honorary mention as well as the speedboat chase in puppet on a chain.
All above have fantastic chase sequences but none are as good as the original Gone in 60 seconds which also featured genuine chases featuring real police cars filmed on hidden camera. It's awesome! |

Ronin- closely followed by Ronin
Nothing over the top, don't remember any cars exploding in a huge fireball or barrel rolling from hitting a bush, just good hard believable driving. It might have been Hollywood money but luc besson kept it firmly on its European feet |

Love the Blues Brothers chase and the chase from the Matrix Reloaded, both previously mentioned.
Also, although not a car chase, the man in black chasing the captured Buttercup in the Princess Bride was priceless.... |

I'm glad some people are mentioning the original "gone in 60 seconds"(acting and plotline questionable!?!) but one hell of a raw car chase, when I mention the film to other people though (who are into cars) they don't know it exists.ps watched "good day to die hard" the other day with a good chase through the streets of russia |

The original was only so tacky because it was made by a stuntman and his immediate family with the help of public funding.
I did a review recently and was saddened to realise that he'd died in the late 80's during a stunt accident on what was going to be the long awaited sequel. |

He watched Bullitt and noticed all the continuity errors and decided to do it better. One car, all filmed in sequence and no camera tricks. |

Beverley hills cop 2, the chase with the cement truck.
The blues brothers, the major wreck at the end.
Ghost rider, the stunt rider. Seeing him take the piss out of sone swedish police officers and still get away from.them is priceless.
Not sure if it qualifies, but it was on a top gear dvd. Sone one filmed themselves speeding through the streets of paris, the car has been narrowed down to a make but no one knows who did the driving |

i like the car chase in the new film need for speed apparently if the cars could not do the stunt for real the stunt was not included in the film so kinda makes a change from the cgi
dark night chase scene
and try wanted
anyway not cars but planes is a much better idea try kill speed |

Gone in 60 secs, I know it would not be possible to do the stunts but eleanor is such a gorgeous car.
Mad Max had some good chases in it.
The classic film the Duel, that has to rate quite high up on the car chase films. The whole film is a car chase.

He was only classed as a stuntman because he did his own stunts. He didn't work in film much at all, but considering that's most of what he did... |

For those people who've mentioned the famous chase in 'bullitt' - did you know they cheated in the film. They used the same bit of chase twice, from different camera angles, in separate parts of the chase. |

That's not cheating in movies, that's economics |

"Bullitt
French Connection
Original Gone in 60 Seconds.
Fav ever car stunt. Roger Moores Bond doing the twisting jump across the river off broken bridges. First stunt to ever use computerisation. None of this CGI bollox " that was not computerisation, they actually twisted the car in mid air over the river. The ramps either side had to be built to exact specifications and the jump done at exact speeds. They got people to do all the maths for them |

That's not cheating in movies, that's economics " thats the reason, good as it is that Bullitt doesn't stand up to scrutiny. The cars take off, overtake a green beetle and then land behind the beetle. The hubcaps come off, they turn the corner and viola! Hubcaps and beetle are back again.
As a single stunt, I don't think anything can beat the James Bond bridge scene. Even Burt Reynolds rocket car |
