From the Luton Airport Web Site:-

Enhanced security measures means that checking in can take longer than it used to. It is advised that you arrive at the airport in plenty of time:

International flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure

European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure

Domestic flights - check in 90 minutes prior to departure

Yes, because online check in is to get your boarding pass. This is about the amount of time it will take you to potentially get through security to get to the boarding gate

Make sure all your electronic devices are charged, you may well be asked to demonstrate them working and will have them confiscated if you cannot show them working.

Luton is the most disorganised airport we have been to. Allow at least two hours to get through security.

Have a lovely holiday.

When you hand over your passport, papers, visa, tickets and so on, don't be tempted to include your last will and testament. They may not see the joke.

No, it's what the airport and airlines recommend. You're best off following the official advice rather than anecdotal advice from a bunch of perverts on a sex site.

Well, for me - yes. But ppl I have been with before departing to Luton where really scared if I can make it, as I should to be more then two hours (according to them)

But seriously - u r already checked inn! u dont have any lugage, so u r going straight to security, how long can it take?

But better check size of you cabin lugage, as they can check it and make u pay extra (especially if you r flying wizzair)

It all depends how busy the airport security are. I've breezed through without having to wait and another time I've had to queue for over an hour.

Don't forget to have all liquids in bottles of 100ml or less and in a sealable clear plastic bag of the right size. You can get a bag at the airport but a Ziploc sandwich bag will do. And remember to include any make up that's a liquid like foundation and mascara.

And anything in a bigger bottle than 100ml even if it just has a little in will be taken from you so check the sizes of perfume etc.

East midlands

We went from east Midlands last week with hand luggage only. Took 5 mins to pass through security and 1hr 55 to wait to board.

We always do online check in but always allow 2 hours for any unexpected queuing etc.

Yes...even the bag has to be a certain size as we found out at Easter. We had 9 100ml bottles in a zip bag, and they said it was too big. The joke was they threw 4 items away and put them in one of their own zip bags and there would've been room for at least 2 of the discarded items.

So once through security, we went to boots and bought full size products.

Now we take expensive liquids with us and buy the rest when we pass through security or when in the country we are visiting.

Last week, on the way out to salou I got stopped because of a strange bottle I had. "Mitchum deoderant". The guy said it was suspect and it needed a swab. We couldn't stop laughing as he really though it was dodgy and had never seen anything like it before?!

A roll on deodorant. Really?

My understanding of check-in is that you still need to be at airport by the posted minimum times, which vary according to the destination that you're headed to. Long haul is normally longer than short haul, eg. USA is longer than European.

You still need to go through airport security, as well as drop off any bags that you've stated you will. Some airports just have bag drop desks, ie. there is no seat allocation done, as you've already got a seat allocated.

My advice is to keep your essentials in your hand baggage, and to always use that allowance.

Some airlines offer shorter times for pre checked-in passengers, such as British Airways, where you can arrive just less than an hour for some routes. Others aren't as generous.

Another tip is that Terminal 5 at Heathrow has automatic lock-out points, that won't let you through if you're under your minimum time. Don't know if others have introduced this yet, but terminal 5 did so from when it opened. It's always worth asking for Fast Track security queue clearance, if you find a nice and friendly member of staff - these are at certain airports for frequent fliers and selected airports and can speed you through security.

You want to try the joy of travelling with a big bag of prescription drugs and dressings! Needles, no problem. A small bottle of clorhexidine for disinfecting everything caused a twenty minute hold up! And that was with a doctor's letter listing everything!

We usually tell our customers to leave the house 5-6 hours before their flight. To allow time for check in, road closures and in case there are any changes made to the flight times.

Blummin eck! I can only imagine.

Its great they are tight on security, but there's tight and then there's "tight".

Make sure it's sealable and as long as its the ones that are the right size for a round of sandwiches. If there's an issue it's usually a pound from a vending machine for two. Remember that every traveller can have a bag.

If your perfume bottle is too big Debenhams do a travel bottle that will fill from any perfume bottle. Boots and primark do travel bottle sets that have clear 100ml bottles and a couple of little screw top jars in - do not use the clear bag this set comes in cos it's the wrong size!

I used to fly a lot for work so spent ages in airports and got it down to a fine art!

Think about what you wear to travel in. You have to take off jackets, belts, boots and many kinds of shoes. So wear slip off shoes and pur your belt in your bag. And anything with metal you may have to take off.
