I once grilled a vegetable. I wanted to know if it had hidden the spring onions somewhere. I couldn't make it talk, though. That was one tough spud.

No. if you borrow something you are intending to return it once you have finished with it. if you use the word borrow instead of have it makes you look like you don't know what the word means....far from making you sound classy
