yes - son had been mugged in broad daylight - not that i knew that at the time - i got a phone call of a bloke saying he had my son in his car - and i could hear son crying - i thought shit and the worst - what had happened he had been jumped on by two larger lads and threatened etc - son had run to first house he came to even though the bullies had said hed be in trouble if he told anybody - it was chucking down and these two fellas were just on way out so put him in car to calm him down - once i knew where he was i just ran out of the house barefoot - got soaked to the skin - was on our estate - never been so glad to see son as i was then - makes me shudder

1982, student in Leicester, working behind a bar in a tiny pub on Braunston Gate. D*unk customer pulled a gun on me as I refused to serve him, he'd just arrived and could hardly walk he was so pissed.

Landlord had shown me a half pool queue behind bar in case of trouble ... Stick vs. Gun I decided to change my mind and serve him. The regulars told him to put the thing away and not be so f... Stupid .... Never been so scared.

Met a guy from a different site. Went to his house. Clearly wasn't him. He went crazy and locked me in house so I couldn't leave. The only time in my life that I thought I might truly be killed.

Decided panicking and kicking off wasn't working so attempted to remain calm and go along with what was happening. First opportunity I got I grabbed keys and scarpered as fast me fat arse could go. Left a lovely pair of shoes behind. Much more careful since then!

You are just the sort of person that should go kickboxing or something. To give yourself some confidence.

3 nights after waking up to find a burglar in the house,I woke up thinking there was someone in the house again because there was a light on downstairs

Frozen with fear to the spot for about 10 minutes and nearly wet myself until I calmed down enough to actually speak and wake my OH up

Funny now but not at the time

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

A few of times.

When I was attacked with an iron bar at work.

When I first had lupus and couldn't walk.

When my son was born and not knowing if he would live.

Mostly for my sanity when it goes a bit wonky.

Almost beaten to death when I was 14 arm busted head smashed in, ribs broken.

Why?

Because I was white hanging around with mates who weren't.

The local national front guy's knew if they picked on me it would be less likely to be followed up than if they beat up my Asian mates.

This was 1985

Pretty scary looking up and seeing a baseball bat about to hit your head

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

I got on the wrong plane in Nigeria and ended up stranded in a town where I wasnt supposed to visit because of kidnappings and stuff....couldnt find any safe accommodation so eventually managed to get a driver who would do the 5 hour drive to get me home.... 30 mins away from home and a gang of guys tried to carjack us.

Was so knackered when we eventually arrived that I just fell asleep but the following day I just felt sick.

Not one of my better days.

1982 I had red paint thrown over me and told that it would be blood the next time because my boyfriend was white. It didn't leave me scared but bloody angry.

Bloody idiots attacking you.

On Wednesday before my emergency surgery, I was sure I was going to die, it wasn't looking good. So happy that I'm alive and can walk again.

One scary episode was while in the Dominican Republic... I left my wife during dinner to go to the on site cashpoint / ATM.

As you may know it's a 3rd world developing country..

Anyway the security guards there all have shotguns and assault rifles.

It was about 22:30 and dark, obviously, and when I was at the ATM the security guard approached me with another man who was speaking his native tongue.

When I asked the guard, heavily armed, what the other guy was saying - he said he's asking me for my money and my watch.

What else could I do!?

Shitty as hell.

Got the watch back but lost some money.

When you're surrounded by two other men one heavily armed, what are you going to do? Say no?

And this was ON SITE in the Hilton in the Dom Rep.

Scary shit.

Hearing the doctor tell my husband he was terminal . Watching him slowly die . Promising to be there at the end no matter what . I was scared . But now I see being there as a privilege . A privilege to hand his hand and show him how much I loved him .

I only hope I can show the same strength and courage he did .
