As a people watcher and avid observer of human behaviour I find it fascinating that when some threads like the current 'Who would you have sex with' one goes up, or the FFF, or sometimes a 'kiss fuck' thread. that there's a mad frenzied scramble. But why???
We're all here to meet people for sex, we all know this - so if we like someone why don't we just message them anyway, why do people need a thread to give them permission to declare an interest??
Or is it just hoping for the ego stroke of being named do you think??
Hmmm? (peers over serious-looking reading specs emoticon) |

I only ever joined in one of those once, a compliment the person above one I think.
I don't like them but other people clearly do and that's fine by me.
I think they serve a number of purposes the main one being a bit of light entertainment and a way of getting a little attention. |

Im not neccessary here to meet for sex. I could be the only one, doubt it.
I dont enter those threads.
Due to filters it could be the only way of letting some people know you fancy them, I imagine a fair few fucks have been fucked from those type of threads.
Not hundreds, just a few fucking dozen. |

Obviously it's all fun at the end of the day, there is definitely ego stroking going on. It's also a place to get yourself used to the forum, without having to worry about what you write.....too much anyway.
I post in the topics that interest me, not just sexual ones either. |

I think the 'best bum' thread is a good example.
People should nominate others not themselves.
People have said 'mine ' only when I look into the profile Im thinking 'no, not at all, thats just a normal, arse with nothing special about it'.
I dont say this though as to offend. |

"Nice butt mate
Don't you start, this is an erstwhile thread I'll have you know!
It is kind of a rule that all threads must at some point become threads about my bottom. Didn't you get the memo?"
Oh no, OK, well I am sure a considered analysis of obsessions with your buttocks could be worked into the diatribe somewhere!

I've had a meet with someone I couldn't pm due to filters, from one of those threads.
Yes they can be overdone and flood the forum at times but sometimes it's a good break from the angry threads. |

I join in from time to time to lighten the mood and have a little fun and sometimes enjoy sitting back and watching what happens.
Filters was a great point and I managed to get chatting to someone through one of these threads which worked out really well for me.
Frisky your are right though why do we hold back instead of messaging someone we would like to meet. I guess in someway we are all still body concuss or have hang ups and think they might not be interested for what ever reason. Silly really but human nature. |

Admit it.
You were working on that 'bookface social manipulation experiment' and the dating site malarkey too!
The serious looking reading specs give it away!

I put it down to the fact some people just don't have the confidence or struggle with rejection and almost need a yes before they ask. I guess some do like the ego stroke but lots of people wouldn't refuse one. |

I stopped posting in those kind of threads when I saw a pattern emerging. Every time I commented nobody seemed to comment afterwards, therefore closing the whole thread and ruining everyone's fun, and possibly weekend.

Someone hoping to get ahold of someone outside their filters perhaps so wanting several bites at the cherry?? I accept no responsibility for unforseen consequences.....

Do people believe that the ego stroking is confined to the kiss, snog, avoid type threads or would it be more prevalent in threads such as the annual forum awards? |

I think it happens in most threads you get to see someone comment and you have an opportunity to say wow you looked great in your picture, this is pat of fabs life in the forums. |

If it happens in most threads, why is attention given to one type of thread? Is there a thread snobbery being displayed? It could be argued that ego stroking is going on in this thread, is that more acceptable?
I'm sure people will post on the threads they want to post on for their own reasons and good luck to them. |

For sure. This thread was simply asking a question about why people are so keen to post on a particular type of thread. People can and will use any and all types of thread to compliment or flirt or stroke egos. |

those threads could be _iewed as an ice breaker, due to someone either not being one of those threads before being seen, or by just sheer coincidence of someone saying thank you for fabbing my picture. |

Sometimes the thread subjects are pretty dire and they may fill in a few moments. They do get a little cheesy but no harm done.
As for the direct approach ....I imagine research would show a large percentage of members rarely meet and in fact prefer flirtatious banter. |

I think some will see it as a safe thread to post in as well - those that are wary or maybe not as confident to post in other forum topics. |

Yes, I can see that new faces might pop up on a 'fun' thread. But I think they're the wrong place for a fragile ego anyway, if nervous people get ignored they'll feel worse? I do think there is a certain mob dynamic to them though, it's like a little vortex that sucks people in!! |
