Have you seen the news that you may have to pay more tax to drive a diesel in towns? they say because of emissions but, I have a 3.0 bmw which when mot'd gave me an emissions readout, it was lower than my 1.2 petrol fiesta! Me thinks I smell a money making scheme

deisel cars made after mid 2001 are cheaper to tax than petrol cars and are less polluting so to raise the tax on such vehicles is just a money making exercise by the village idiot that is borris johnson.the idiot wants to be pm dont say u aint been warned

"I wonder what would happen if everyone just refused to pay it?"

Everyone would get a spanked bum and sent to bed.

Really, if they think that Diesel fuel is dirtier then they should put an extra penny of tax on it at the pump. rather than taxing at a flat rate, let those who pollute the most pay the most.

I think that this is just Boris' idea to apply along side the congestion charge in London.

Why? Do you really think that "green" taxes go on green initiatives? It makes it easier for the tax collectors to target but does bugger all to address the perceived issue.

My diesel costs me £20 a year to tax. Hoping for a £0 tax car next (if such a thing exists)

Hello Carparkguy,

"they say because of emissions but, I have a 3.0 bmw which when mot'd gave me an emissions readout, it was lower than my 1.2 petrol fiesta! Me thinks I smell a money making scheme"

No, your MOT just tests CO2, diesels have much higher emission levels of other gasses than petrol but all the attention is on CO2. Also the particulate emitted from diesels is very bad for some peoples health. At long last the penny has dropped that diesels are not all that good.

It was in the news a few weeks ago that the EU is planning on increasing fuel duty on petrol and diesel we buy in this country and all over europe. The uk government have not raised fuel duty over the last few years because i think they have finally realised motorists have had enough of being ripped off in this country, so now we are going to get it from the EU instead. Another reason for us to leave the EU to add to the ever growing list if you ask me.

don't start me on vehicle tax.

Motorbikes are still taxed based on their capacity *not* on their emissions or taking onto account they don't contirbute to congestion (although they are exempt London Congestion Charges)

For those that don't know the rates they are (per year)

Up to 150cc £17

151 - 400cc £38

401 - 600cc £58

over 600cc £80

I ride an 1100cc Blackbird, 160ish BHP,plenty fast, over all average 42mpg and here's the rub the CO2 figures, 16.7 CO2 g/km , and thats for the older non catted version (which mine is)

If she was a car my road tax would be £0!!!

Rant over :D

It's Boris and the Green Party talking bollocks again.

They cleaned up the particulates in diesels only to find this made them more carcinogenic.

You couldn't make this shit up!

Get a bicycle, no vehicle emissions tax at all.

To be honest you must be a bit mad to take a car into central London.

So raising congestion charge is not that bad a thing.

The push to diesel may have pushed many to look more at fuel consumption, so the technical challenges are now NOx and CO figures

I think it is due to the fuel economy of diesels that is getting the higher emissions duty added to it, the government has to gets its money some how.

Simples the sooner we leave the corrupt shambles of the EU the better !

We will still trade with Europe as we do now ! Bit won't have to squander billions per year as being part of the corruption

No political ! Lol

Central

It is a way to increase income under the guise of having failed to keep pollution in a lot of the uk at safe levels. Many places have dangerous pollution now, and small particles from diesel vehicles are an issue. I drive diesel and am glad it is not being imposed right away, so you have time to change your car etc. Second hand diesel prices may take a hit though. The government faces fines imposed on it for failing to address problems and be below safety limits - lovered pollution will benefit us all but is it the right means? Otherwise, it may be news to distract us from something else, so stay keen.

I think all those Teachers who drive Diesel cars should pay all the extra tax required.

Even on their days off, oops i mean strike days.

Dirtier than what?

Diesel already costs several pence more than petrol per litre.

As for tax, we're taxed twice on fuel. Fuel duty is a tax and they then charge VAT on it!
