Are you one of the people who let a gap open up before playing catch up.. or are you the crawl along type who wont let more than a meter come between you and the car infront?

Nah, i don't play catch up. I just close in...i don't have time to play catch up unless i'm in one of those mellow moods where i just want to relax and enjoy a long drive.

I dont leave big gaps but prefer to keep momentum going rather than stop start. Plenty of clutch control and rolling is more restful than stop and start. And I despise chancers who try to take a space that is not theirs. |

On the bikes I don't sit in traffic jams (air cooled engines can't do that anyway!)
In the car it depends on my mood and entertainment never let a big gap open up and squeeze in tight if just past a junction in case a car behind can get off the road and break free. For years I was hourly paid and spent many of those hours sat in traffic jams so just sat there adding up how much I had made in the last mile, happy to let people pull in front of me as it really makes no difference to my journey time. |

Once I know I'm gonna be stuck in it for a while, good tunes, keep the car rolling with a gap in front of me.
Not interested in those that push in or try and queue jump, it makes no discernible difference in how long my journey is so why get so worked up about it. If they're stupid enough to think that that extra car length or two of speed will get them home quicker then good luck to 'em.

Interesting point about the bike, I often push through / past traffic jams to the front of the jam and ride on almost empty roads for a mile or two, but almost never see any reason for the traffic to be slow or stopped, yes there is the occasional accident or blocked lane through breakdown but 90% of the time there just isn't any cause at all. |

Could not give a shit about doing the old. Sit right behind car in front no fucker is making me ten seconds later routine.
I just chill and relax fuck all that can be done. Ok i am not going to let a million cars in front of me but what's the point in getting all stressed
Life is too short for that shit. |

In an automatic I turn the music up and chill while keeping the gap about a bonnet and a half apart. If the car in front's clutch cable goes I need enough room to get around them.
In a manual car I let the gap become half a car and don't ride the clutch. |

because i was in the lane that had to merge into the left i left gaps rather than crawled...
if i was in the lane on the left that had traffic merging into it then id have crawled. |

Done that on way down here, made for a fun traffic jam ...
Used a bubble machine in the past that happened to be in the car, opened the windows blew bubbles everywhere .... |

Hey I like that idea ....although it will be a good challenge of my willpower not to eat them all! If you're on the m3 later watch out for the crazy lady throwing jelly babies at your car "
Ever thought this might be the reason for the jam in the first place?
Someone throws a jelly baby at my car it would freak me out lol |
