Just been reading through the thread diamondsmiles posted earlier about best friends and it has started me thinking
I (him) am coming up to my 45th birthday and looking back on my life so far I've never had what you would call a best friend
I'm the type of guy who was always a bit of a loner and I've always enjoyed my own company but sometimes I do thing I've missed out a little
Now don't get me wrong I'm very happy with my life I have a gorgeous wife and 2 amazing kids and apart from my family I do not know a single other person that I could call a friend or mate
And it's always been like that even when I was a kid
I work for myself so I don't have works mates etc
Hope this does not come across as a sob story as like I've already said i am a very happy person I was just wondering are there others that do not have friends ?
Or am I some kind of weirdo

I'm an only child and also a bit of a loner. I've got used to and enjoy my own company. I've been away on holiday on my own a few times and I'm off on a road trip next week on my own. That doesn't bother me.
I have plenty of friends but I can count on the fingers of one hand the very good / best friends I've had in my life and I'm 50 this year. My childhood friend died of breast cancer three years ago and I have one other very good or best friend.
I sometimes feel I'm missing out but I've also learnt that 'friends' can be two faced so I don't bother with people like that anymore. I don't have the time or the patience to be used just because I'm good natured and soft.
So you're not a weirdo OP and you're not on your own |

"You do have friends. They just happen to be family too. "
Yeah I knew as soon as I clicked on post message that I should have said my wife is my best friend
And I best say that as she reads the forums too

No you are not, I had a best friend when I was at school but she met someone and moved away and there's been no-one else since then. I don't have friends to hang around with either just my kids |

Oh of course I do although I do think she wished I had a few mates so I could get out of her way sometimes |

I don't want to patronise you but...best friends do come along.
I had few friends in my 20s but then I made a good friend. He was very outgoing and introduced me to all his friends.
I now have a good network of friends I have now known for over 20 years.

I have friends I meet on a rare occasion but I haven't any close friends I could rely on. Sometimes it bothers me because it would be nice to have someone to talk to but I do have a wonderful husband that I'm very close too so that makes up for it. X |

Yeah I do understand that , and have to say I'm not on the look out for a "best friend" but would be nice to have someone who I could maybe confide in from time to time |

I wouldn't say so it sounds as though you have a decent life so not a weirdo in my book I hope you really don't feel like one. |
