always suffered from mouth ulcers but back in the day ..donkey years ago a doctor advised me smoke as this prevents them ...yes i know ..crazy advice now ....however it worked !

having just given up smoking the pesky buggers are back and they are hardcore !!

does anyone know the active ingredient in cigs that stops them ?

I had a lot of ulcers as a kid. I smoke. No ulcers ever!

Smokers develop a thin layer of tar inside their mouths and it's this that prevents mouth ulcers forming. If you give up, that layer disappears within a couple of weeks and the ulcers will come back. They shouldn't last for long, as you mouth rebuilds its natural immunity.

The same happen to me stopped smoking started getting ulcer 5 years on still getting them

as mentioned above, tar is the coating.So...just head down to where they are doing some tarmacing and lick the road.Its safer than smoking.

The downside, smokers can get a lot of gum infections and related problems. I haven't. But your gums do recede faster.

Apparently, you can control ulcers also simply by adding more alkaline to your diet; less acidity, go figure.
