O o O oo

We stopped off for dinner while out at the weekend and it was a carvery. People were piling their plates up so high they had to walk really slow to get to their table, they can't possibly have eaten it all..........so do you pile high or just get what you would normally eat?

Get what I normally eat.

Then again, my plate is usually heaped up at home, so it looks like I'd be one of those 'slow walkers'

lol maybe they are better off giving out two plates !

What I couldn't understand was the people were really slim, and if they ate all what they had piled on and that was normal, they must think us bigger people eat 4 times as much !

I have a very big appetite - scare people in amount I can eat, but as at home,I would take what I know I eat & go back for seconds (typo's in deleted post, sorry! )

it makes me smile too, when I see people with plates heaped high, you'd think they hadn't eaten for days

People just go into "dog mode" when at these "all you can eat" places. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for "getting your money's worth" but this behaviour is one of the reasons that I avoid such places

Don't you think it's a British thing?, I know the Americans are often the same but us Brits are so excessive.....

A few years ago as a special treat we booked into a very posh hotel in Ibiza, it was the opposite of our normal haunt on the island but as it was a special anniversary we opted to splash out for once.

The breakfast was buffet style and you could always tell who the Brits were in the morning, with plates stacked up ridiculously high with stuff that was mostly left uneaten.

If there were Five different breakfast rolls and they couldn't make their mind up what to have....they would have them all, taste four of them and only really eat the fifth!

Have you tried the all you can eat Chinese in Plymouth City centre?, I have seen people with plates there that look like the leaning tower of feckin' Pisa!

Well they were either trying to stuff themselves silly so they didn't have to eat for a week, or have the mentality you are talking about Jane.

All I know is it put me off eating, as they seemed to be eating like pigs too, couldn't get enough in their mouths at once.

The thing is in the carvery I go to you can go back up for vegetables and yorkshires, but you still see people with ten roast potatoes hanging off their plates.....I know I shouldn't but I find I just have to look (and comment) on them, my hubby hates going there with me....

I's the same at the one I go to. As much as you can eat for £3.50.

You can go back for veg and Yorks pudds etc. Everything bar the meat.

I hate wasting food so I only put what I can eat on there.

As we normally pay more to eat out than it would to make it at home, my plate looks like a mountain and yes I eat the lot.

What I have noticed tho if there is a salad bar, which I love, they provide plates the size of a saucer!!! So small you can just about get a piece of cucumber and a lettuce leaf on and that's it. I do feel I look greedy when I keep going back tho.

I agree with a lot that has been posted but. If a man had the same deal in a brothel wouldn't he fill his room also ? Whether he could finish the lot or not ? Just a thought !

I was staying at the Hilton Brighton recently. They have a buffet style breakfast it was embarrassing watching people stack their plates. You could tell they didn't even want the food but were "getting their monies worth".

The only thing I had every day, my yearly treat, black pudding!! It's something I shouldn't like and certainly shouldn't eat but...hmmmmmm

little house on the praire

I always get a "good" plateful when i go to a carvery but i eat it all and never go back for seconds. When having breakfast in a hotel i usually have fruit with yogurt and the cooked breakfast which i dont ever have at home but i have it and then dont eat till about 8 in the evening.

Ten years ago took my son to euro disney paid £10 each extra to have a "character" breakfast where they all come round. There was so much choice of food never seen anything like it in my life and what did my son have............. one banana lol

Up North :-)

Take what you will eat, if needed go back for more but no point in eating so much you make your self ill and feel uncomfortable.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

"Don't you think it's a British thing?, I know the Americans are often the same but us Brits are so excessive.....

No, the Amercians are worse in my experience.

More than once I've seen one with a plate piled high with grits, bacon, eggs, toast...

..and pancakes and syrup on top.

My local Toby Carvery is immense.

£3.50 for all you can eat. I tend to eat as much as i can . Yes its greed but why should i care what other people think, am sure they don't when they're eating their huge portions.

Also love the local Indian and Chinese who also do a cracking buffet and i again tend to stuff my face.

Great value if you ask me.

The Indian ones are pretty good when you can keep going back. It makes you wonder at times though if its put on as a loss leader at times
