Hi, i'm having a partial or full knee replacement soon following an injry to my knee. Obviously i have had lots of info from the hospital but wondered if anyone here has had the same operation and has any wisdom and tips that might help me ?

My old man had it done to both knees. I had to find a new nickname as Banana Knees no longer worked. Hence give your nearest and dearest some notice and scope for getting a new name for you.

He said it was painful, but well worth it.

I'm presuming he didn't have both knees done at the same time ?

It was a few years ago and I think he did, although I could be wrong. I know he had his feet up for quite a while and has some impressive scars.

will need to have one of mine done however am hanging it out as long as possible as given varying advice on life of replacement and number of etc, not sure what the extent of a 'partial' is as opposed to a 'total knee' but have seen 4 specialists and 3 have said a knee cap replacement is to be avoided..

I'm not having a knee cap replacement, they r replacing bone from leg bones, it had been damaged by an accident and the bone ir rubbing away causing great pain and lack of mobility. They won't know whether they are doing a full or partial until they get in there

I have waited for a few years trying to bear the pain etc but gave up in the end.

Make sure you make use of the hospital's physio dept - they'll give you the info you need for a good recovery. All I can add is that if it feels if it needs rest - rest it, preferably elevated.
