The land of grey peas and bacon

Feel that you are slightly stupid with certain threads that are put up when they are speaking about something clever....now I'm a pretty intelligent person and would like to think that I know a fair bit about certain subjects, however there are certain subject that are discussed here and I look at it and think what the fook are you going on about....I sometimes think maybe I should learn about that subject but sometimes I don't want to come across a complete idiot...

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

The older I get, the more I understand how little I really know no matter how much I learn. In the grand scheme of things, considering all of human knowledge, I pretty much know nothing.

Ignorance is bliss so I'm happy.

I don't think.it's the content of the thread that puts me off, rather the tone of it.

Quite often you get the battle of the degrees going on and the replies are very condescending.

Knowing what you don't know is very powerful. Not knowing, is dangerous.

There's loads I don't know or don't understand. If I'm interested I ask- I don't care if people think I'm stupid. If I'm not interested I just move on to something else.

Like chocolate.

Not at all, we can't all know everything. Some subjects go right over my head as I have no interest in them. Someone may be brainy on one subject and no fuck all about anything else

I never think I'm stupid if I don't know the subject matter of a thread. I'm not afraid to ask questions.

When I first started interfering with you lot I was always asking what's this and what's that.

No I never feel stupid for that reason.

Sometimes I do or say stupid things, for which I'll admonish myself.

I'm absolutely confident that I'm not stupid though, and to adulterate a well known phrase, nobody can make me feel stupid without my permission.

If anyone here thinks I'm stupid, I don't give a flying fart.

If only I had the same degree of body confidence!

Mostly agree with this, I'm aware that we can never know everything and it's wise to understand how little we can know . Although the tao of pooh bear suggests ignorance is bliss, it really isn't x I often feel left out because I know nothing about something I feel I should x and of course there is loads of stuff I don't have the inclination to know about x

I hope to live each day with an open mind and a desire to observe and understand.

I also commened people who ask when they don't know or research x

I wasn't suggesting not having a desire to always learn something new. Just that, when taken in the context of the entirety of human knowledge, all individuals are, relatively speaking, ignorant.

The land of grey peas and bacon

I've never been the brightest spark I suppose, I'm not academically minded and was one of these that had to revise and have tutors when doing my exams. Some of my friends just picked it up. I'm more of a hands on person show me how to do it and I pick it up the first time...

Likewise. I have particular interest in literature, politics, education but I only know the RIP's relevant to mine or my parents generation, not got a clue on sport or technology or gaming. Music film and theatre are interests too but again my knowledge is ltd to those artists/productions I'm familiar with. Nobody can be an expert on everything (my geography beyond Europe is appalling!) and anyone who claims to be is kidding themselves.

I find it quite amusing when people try to outdo each other in terms of supposed intelligence. The more they post the longer the words get.

You do certainly get the 'battle of the degrees' going on as Evie has mentioned.

Those who feel the need to tell all about their achievements, whether real or embellished somewhat, sound rather silly in my opinion. Some people just don't feel the need to state qualifications, job title, salary earned, university attended etc. All of that is rather unnecessary as its blatantly obvious in the way they communicate

It doesn't make me feel stupid if there is something I don't know about ( of which there are lots of subjects ) but I did read a thread not long ago at least four times and thought they were talking in a different language to me as I understand jack shit of it

My problem is I have a short attention span and a rubbish memory for things im not intefested In. So half the time come across as more stupid than I actually am because im not actively applying my brain to the subject.

Most of the time realising my own ignorance on a subject intrigues me, rather than makes me feel stupid coz I start wondering how iv been able to be ignorant to it for so long.

I was probably talking about ECU remapping, air induction and changing cams. A bit geeky but I freely admit to being a car bore.

Everybody is capable of adding something interesting to any conversation...no matter what their level of education. Indeed often the most boring people are the ones who've been educated in a certain way and are merely repeating what they got taught. Life's too short not to develop your own opinions...and sometimes it's the person you least expect it from who comes out with something truly challenging and thought provoking
