I have it.
It hurts. A lot.
I have a brace to wear at night to keep my foot in the right position for it to heal.
I've had the brace on for an hour and fuck me it fucking hurts! Apparently my foot doesn't like being held in the right position, (I already knew my ankles and toe joints are very stiff).
My calf muscle and Achilles tendon (also quite short and stiff) are hurting too.
I might have to work up to having my foot held in a normal position |

I wear special shoes too. They have 6" heels
That is probably the reason I'm wearing the brace now.

Thanks. It looks like a flipping great ski boot.
I'm also doing stretching exercises several times per day. That should help with flexibility and make the brace more comfortable. |

It should heal. It usually does. Eventually. I go ages with no problem and then it flares up.
The brace and the stretching will help. I should stretch regularly but being stupid, I only do it when I have a problem. I must find a yoga class.
It'll get better as I lose weight again too. I did well for the first few months of this year, then it all went a bit pear-shaped. I'm back on the wagon now. |

I've had this on and off for over a year this time. But had it for years in the past. My doctor told me not to wear flats always wear shoes with supporting in soles. Its always more comfortable in heels. I use gel heel pads if my shoes arent padded.
I went for a 5k walk yesterday in trainers and its killing this morning.

High strength glucosamine helps with joint pain. I was dubious till I got joint issues as a side effect to some medication and it was so painful I was willing to try anything!
You need to take at least 1000mg per day, most of the tablets just have 500mg so take two. |

I get it off n on saw a specialist he recomended thick soled shoes like fit flops
also said steriod injections can make the ligament explode and then u will kno u have pain as its unrepairable
i did exercises n rest for mine to go eventually |

I also have an issue with my feet especially with my right one, specialist said no more than an inch high but with support in the front rather than thin soles as they won't help me, however I do find the higher the heel the more comfortable it is, just a killer trying to then get my foot flat when I take them off |

Get a golf ball and sit down put ball on floor and roll your foot on it over the plantar.
Also get a sports drink bottle fill three quarters full. Freeze it then do the same
Roll your foot over it to stretch the plantar the ice will help with pain and swelling.
Perciverance with it is the key

I get it from time to time and the frozen bottle is the treatment a physio friend recommended, it works for me. |

Have had this myself. . Family expert advice to me is. . . Frozen water bottle to roll under foot daily . Also main action is stretch the foot at night in bed. However the most important thing to do is stretch the foot upwards before you get out of bed and put weight on it. If this isn't done what ever stretching you may have done the day before is lost. As you re damaging the area as soon as you stand on your foot. I have done this now for about two weeks and it's gone. I am continuing to do the stretching morning and evening to prevent it returning. . . . . |

I have had this for years now, never had the footbrace though. Currently undergoing phsyio, it isn't making a lot of difference but it is early days.
Yoican have the cortisone (apologies for spelling) injections in the heel, but they.only last 3 months and the drs don't recommend more than 2 a year as it can weaken the achillies tendon. |

This is an awful thing to have, I work in healtcare and have treated it on many occasions. Most of the tricks people have put on here already, rolling your foot over an iced can or bottle is one of the easy and most effective ones.
Do not have a steroid injection if you can help it, it really can cause more damage to the achilles tendon.
If you haven't already then see a physio who will massage your foot - it will hurt but it can work wonders.
Also I have found applying tape to the foot can give a great deal of relief and support again ask a physio. If they won't or can't do it ask to see someone who can.
Also there are two muscles in your calf, and have different stretching techniques, the two muscles are Gastrocnemius and Soleus - Google to find the stretches for both.

Also a good sports massage on calf's, hamstrings and glutes.
Get to a good running shop and get your gait checked maybe some supportive running shoes will help |

I have very high arches and a tendency to land hard on my heels.
Also, my ankles, toe joints and Achilles tendons are very tight and inflexible, as are my calves, the muscles in my shins, my hamstrings, my quads, my hip flexors and my glutes. And, actually, everything else!
I must find that yoga class. I've been recommended a class run by a physio which sounds good. |

That's what I had too, the whole experience was the most traumatic thing I have ever encountered. They injected an anaesthetic into my foot before injecting the steroid, truly awful. I then had a few sessions with a physio and, coupled with stretching exercises, it was home within a couple of months. |

Mr from years of skipping and roadwork has this, it is aggrevated by his workboots sometimes and regularly has to have fitted insoles. Stretching, rolling and exercise does help and keeping hydrated seems to lessen it aswell, he has never been able to touch his toes but can always kick over his head which is a bit strange |

Ive had this for years, gets so painful i cant even have bed clothes on my feet and they get hot and burn. I was told to stand on a step, with just my toes on them and gently lower the heel. I too havent been able to move my toes for years and if i try it gives me horrendous cramp lol |

I do the exact same exercise for my achilles tendioapathy.... so I only get the burning sensation when i have done a fair bit of walking so that exercise and anti-inflamatory tablets are helping... |

I also have had this, went to a sports physio.
He told me sit in a chair and roll a cold - not frozen can of beans under the arch of my foot.
Stand upright,with your back pressed to the wall, and raise your heels to a count of 30.
Stand facing the wall, but about 2ft.away from it.
Lean forward and place you hands on the wall,and count to 30.
Repeat each exercise 10 times.
Both exercises are to gently stretch the tendons.
It will take time, there is no quick cure.

Policeman's heel is plantar calcaneal bursitis not fasciitis. You get fluid under the heel with bursitis.

as per the OP a friend of mine at work has this and was telling me all about it. It sounds like it's quite a common complaint. Not sure I should be mentioning this site to her though as she may not appreciate it.. haha |

Me too VV I have it and it fekking kills. I dont use night splints.. i stretch into that osition using a towel before getting out of bed and do the exercises. Sadly my job involves standing for 8hrs a day :-/ OUCH |

Had it a few years back bloody awful pain had ultrasound treatment just thrown the casts of my feet away and the inserts for the shoes. Just need to have shoes that support the foot so high heels ok |

I suffered badly for a year - did all the exercises, rolled cold tins, wore crocs with a rocker 'keep fit' type sole to keep the weight off my heel, bought almost every brand of shoe known to man, rubbed anti inflammatory gels etc etc...the pain totally stopped my normal lifestyle for over a year.
Eventually saw a Bowen Therapist - one treatment and no more agonising pain. Occasional niggles now and then 6 months on, particularly if I've been standing still for too long, but rest and stretching sorts that out. |

Having worn the splint on the worst leg last night, on top of the frequent stretching I've been doing, and stretching before I got out of bed this morning, I've had significantly less pain today than I've had for a while.
I'm fortunate I can rest my feet quite a lot at the moment too. |
