Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I'm watching Becket. I can't remember the last time I saw this film but I am blown away by Burton and O'Toole, once again. Their performances in the scenes together really convey the love and tensions in the relationship of the King and his adviser.
Such charismatic men too.

I've never seen that film - I love O'Tooke though in Lawrence of Arabia - he just plays that role so brilliantly.
Burton also blows me away as the narrator of War of the Worlds.
Both brilliant actors, handsome & voices that make you melt.  |

I hope not.
Acting styles and modern direction would change their performances a bit (less melodramatic death scenes) but the intimate conversations would remain the same and that is where they excel. Although O'Toole being flogged was pretty well done too.

They showed Peter O'Toole being inter_iewed by Michael Parkinson and Russell Harty this morning, as a preliminary to showing the film.
He was a very charismatic man  |

I like old films anyway but there is a quickening of the pulse when I know it's a performance from a screen legend.
I must get myself a Bette Davis fix soon.

There's a book that looked at this but I can't remember what it's called. It was on R4 Book of the Week earlier this year.
