Last night, I ( greek-american) was talking to this one hot british girl; however, her accent was so thick i couldn't understand her. It was if she was speaking another language.
Got me thinking, do Brits also have some difficulties understand the various British accents? |

I have a pleasant southern Ireland accent which I know isn't British but I still find it hard to be understood, especially when I get in a temper.

Let's see how good I am picking up the accents, I think she is from Newcastle area.
She probably told me yesterday , but sounded might of said " newkingsbury" and I just shook my head saying that's nice!
If i see her out tonight, or before her holidays are up, I will ask her! |

I travel about a fair bit, and I don't really have too much trouble with accents.
There are lots of insular communities in Britain though, filled with people who don't venture outside of their own postcode for years at a time - they probably have quite a bit of trouble understanding anybody else. |

I love accents, I'm a proper Janner maid myself, but I tried a telephone conversation with a lovely Liverpool lad from Fab, but I could not understand what he was saying! |

We are a unique breed of people us Brits, an amalgamation of folks who take the piss out of each other, but when it comes to the crunch, we pull together, and sort it.
Oh and I've got the sweetest Brummie accent you will ever hear

One of my girlfriends grew up in Glasgow - where her mum is from but has an accent that is also peppered with her dad's thick Irish one. She also speaks at a hundred miles and hour. People are always asking her to slow down when she speaks but luckily for me, I understand her just fine.
She then married a Liverpudlian and his accent is very strong. Their littles ones have great accents . I always find it interesting how children pick up the accent their parents have.
When my friend has had a drink, she speaks even more - intensely
Have another friend whose parents are from Barbados but he was born and raised in London. He has a full on Bajan accent to accompany his Queen's English |

Lol! My 'little' has an accent that's half American, half hull
I found some regional accents difficult when i moved here. Now I'm ok with understanding them, unless the person mumbles. |

Love different accents. My favourites are Scottish, Southern Irish & Kent I think.
I have been told I have a posh telephone voice. I know though, that depending on who I am with, words like grass, bath and cider end up more like graaaaassssss, baaaaaaaath, and zoiiiidddeeer. |

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria |
Another one here that struggles to understand broad Glaswegian...also some of the Marras I work with (Whitehaven) can be difficult to understand especially when they talk fast (and that's only 25 miles up the coast from Arse End)...I, of course, do not have an accent and speak with crystal clarity at all times |

I had a 5 yr relationship with an Aberdonian, she had been down here a fair few years so her accent was slightly diluted, but when she got on the phone to her folks I could hardly understand a word she said
I was 28 and she 41 when we met and she introduced me to swinging through a mag called Rendezvous |

A north London accent is the best but then I am biased too posh ok yaa goes right through me same for lots of other areas in England a lilting Irish accent is so soothing. I just think Londoners are for the main part quick witted everyone else is slow witted - the old just cos I talks slow don't mean I'm stupid springs to mind |
