Just suppose though, if Hamas didn't repeatedly fire rockets at areas of innocent civilian populations, would Israel have any need to retaliate?

"Only way as peace was rejected by hamas "

Rejected and counter-terms have been offered by Hamas that Israel must "stop the aggression" of air strikes against targets in Gaza, release the dozens of Palestinians detained in response to last month's kidnapping of three Israeli students in the West Bank, and "end the siege on Gaza permanently".

Which we all know won't be accepted as the only thing this is about is the trillion cubic meters of natural gas that is under Gaza.

Do your digging off the beaten path of the main news sites and get a true reflection of what is going on...It's a complete disgrace!

Not if the history, and future, of mankind is anything to go by, no. There always has been and always will be "tribal" fighting.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I was chatting about this with my mate on Tuesday night. I've come to the following conclusion. It must be one of the worst places in the world to be an estate agent.

How many times do you have to cancel a viewing as the property is now just a crater, or have to point out that as it is a 7th floor apartment whilst it has an en-suite it does not come with its' own bomb shelter. The view to the right is interesting, as you can see the beautiful med, to the left, well, do you like really big fireworks displays? It must be tricky if they ask if the land is on a freehold, too.

My thoughts about Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people are pretty much unprintable here....

Suffice to say it's increasingly evident the Israeli government now seem more than eager to engage in the sort of inhuman behaviour their own people once despised...

Actually, all evidence supports that fighting is only about 5-15 thousand years old. Read john keegan's history of warfare. And before anyone asks, he was highly peer reviewed.

And what was the size of population 15,000 years ago? Mankind had barely entered the America's, if at all, by then.

Not entirely true. How can you have a negotiation with only one side being considered. Hamas weren't even involved in the negotiation. They had nothing to reject.

Not sure you can have serious peace talks where one side has nuclear weapons and the other side has a few rockets...

But the side with "a few rockets" prefers to send them into Israel rather than talk

Hamas are what is now considered 'old terrorism'. They use low tech means to get the other side to the negotiating table. Unfortunately in the conflict neither of these sides are actually willing to negotiate. They both demand and won't compromise.

'new terrorism' takes a slightly different slant, as they are basically not seeking negotiation in any form.
