Will England get off to a winning start which would set them off nicely?
USA are more than capable of beating them.
Will Rio's injury be a huge loss or can King fill his boots in a makeshift defence with Terry?
How can Capello get the best out of Lampard and Gerrard. Its a bit of a headache when you have 2 world class midfielders and they can't play together in the same team!
Can England cope with the intense heat over 90 mins?
My prediction.....England 1 USA 1 |

"England 2-0 Rooney and Crouch
Rooney is 14/1 to get booked first!
That is a tasty bet!"
rooney rarely gets booked early in a match, so unless he's targeted, I don't agree with you. I think Carra or Gerrard better bet for first booking |

First group games are always tense affairs, too afraid to attack in case of conceding. 2-0 to England, late first half goal, late second half goal to flatter the result. |

England 1 USA 1
Bunch of pansies who have the odd magical moment will go ahead, only for the USA to battle on for a late equaliser.
I'd be happy if England qualify from the group stages. Absolutely no chance in hell of winning it. Spain would do us by a good three or four goals. It would be the equivalent of Chelsea/Portsmouth in the FA Cup final. |

The USA manager was saying the other day his players will be giving Rooney respect and will not be trying to provoke and wind him up to try and get him to lose him temper.
Mind games |

not to bothered about rio being out as he aint the player he was and to make him captain was no short of a joke tbh.lampard is a good player at club level but is not a team player for england. someone should tell him he has to pass the ball to his fellow players sometimes .england to win 2-1. |

I would be very surprised if England do lose.
However this squad is not as strong as previous competitions and I see them struggling this year.
Too many individual players who do not blend together makes a poor team.
I think the USA are also weak as Football is a game for women over there and traditionally they never compete very well in the sport.
That said they will not be there to make up the numbers.
As for Scotland, once upon a time when England were failing to reach these competitions it was Scottish players that were the backbone of English football.
When clubs in Scotland cannot financially compete with teams in the lower echelons of the English Leagues then how are we supposed to compete at this level.

Couldn't agree more about Lampard. He's a glory hunter who believes the hype surrounding him when the reality is that Mourinho build a good time that allowed him to shine for Chelsea, anywhere else and he's greedy at worst, competent at best, but just average most of the time. |

"It was a draw, it happens.
Yeah it happens doesn't it.
If it was us verves USA we would has drawn as well
Us? Do you play at that level?
"
Going with that display tonight any team was capable of getting something at that level.
Just admit England were poor.
And so are Scotland in any international |

It doesn't look like you understand football it was not a bad match but the ball wouldn't go in. Your just looking to gloat or cause something but that's a bitter jock for you. |

England's performance was ok, not great, but - dodgy keeping error aside - it was a solid performance.
If not for that single lapse in concentration by Green we would be sitting comfortably atop the group with 3pts.
As it stands now, it's going to go down to how many goals England and the USA score against Algeria and Slovenia as to who wins the group, but - if either Slovenia or Algeria win today then they'll go top and be in a good position and more liable to take points from the USA than from us. I still think we'll win the group with 7pts, USA 2nd with 5pts, Slovenia 3rd with 4pts and Algeria last with 1pt. |

annother bitter jock here.if you understand football.you should know.the main object of the game,is getting the ball in the net.howard played ok,a couple of run of the mill saves, nothing spectacular.if england dont up there game, they wont even get through the group stages. |

So Rob Green fucked up, we all make mistakes...
it's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils. If we go out of the tournament it won't be because of one mistake. More concerned about our lack of an out and out world class striker and the fact that capello seems to be lacking a plan b. |

The USA are ranked 14th in the world and have always been expected to progress to the knockout stages, so it's hardly surprising that they gave us such a good game. England are ranked 8th, Slovenia 25th and Algeria 30th.
The way I see it is that after the three group games we will have to win four games of football against whoever faces us to win the World Cup. I don't care who it is, I just want us to qualify past the group stage.
The way it stands now, Slovenia top the group on 3 pts, if they take another point from either us or the USA they stand a good chance of going through. Our last two games are must win games and we must score lots of goals, as I fear it's going to come down to who puts more past Algeria - us or the US. |
