Oh fucking leave it out!! A load of women suddenly appear out of the woodwork bleating that Rolf Harris touched them and it destroyed their lives and it is only now that they have felt able to talk about it. Poor darlings, it's got nothing to do with any compensation they might receive from the criminal injuries board, has it? And 5 years, 9 months!! A totally disportionate sentence for such minor crimes. I don't believe for a single moment that thet were as traumatised as they make out. In a country where killers have got 18 months for actually killing someone. How can that be justified? His big mistake was to depend on the sanity and fairness of the legal system in this country. Something that has been missing for a very long time. He might well die in prison. But the sentencing judge will be smugly content because he will have removed a 'dangerous criminal' from our society and protected the 'vulnerable' what a hero!

Couldn't be reported during the trial because of subjudicy. Many of the woman celebs that have came forward have been vilified. Easy to understand why they kept quiet at the time

They were children, they had no idea! Abusers make you feel worthless, they frighten you that no one will believe you,its your fault, yournaughty etc. Add to that the fact he was a much loved national treasure, I'm not suprised they were too scared to come forward!

It's not like he was some touchy feely guy who pinched a couple of bums in a club. He sexual abused young innocent children!

Having watched her work at close quarters in the past I am of the opinion that she is a foul mouthed hypocritical self aggrandising hag who would happily stoop so low as to jump on this or any other bandwagon she felt would further her career.

nobody in the industry is going to shout out and be considered a trouble maker. I once had a conversation about celebs with a journalist who told me the inside stories on many celebs including George Michael and Barrymore long before the stories came out. He told me that certain celebs ( Rolf would have been one) are untouchable because they play the media game ie readily available for inter_iews etc. once the story breaks, it is open season and all the stories come out in a torrent. There are many more names he mentioned that I can't repeat. Suffice to say he has been correct every time so far.

Their status can help to cover up a hell of a lot

I suppose so....and from what has been going on , ie the Saville thing it does sound the case and if honest can understand why....but....I am just surprised that if it happened so open then why didn't someone say oiii what are you doing....it just seems odd that not one soul would say anything if they see it at the time.

I have also heard that V is not easy to work with. Perhaps her co workers considered it come uppance, who knows? I do know that in that industry, reputation is everything, troublemakers don't work and the talent will be discarded at the first sign of a ratings fall if they are twats.

Vanessa feltz comes across as someone who adores publicity, airing her loud mouthed _iews and probably enjoys the trappings of money.

I heard that Rolf's fortune was likely to be decimated in light of compensation claims that will be made upon his estate. I feel for innocent children who have had their lives ruined, but my verdict's out on ms feltz.

One of the female witnesses for the prosecution was being inter_iewed the other day. She had dug out a bit of footage which proved Rolf was somewhere he claimed he had never been.

Anyway.... the thing this woman said which stood out for me was.... All of the older guys were gropers. It's just the way it was. But this was Rolf Harris. He is famous, so it was wrong for him to grope people.

A grown woman being filmed live on TV allows a man to run his hand up her leg to her knicker elastic and then jumps away as they stop for break,a whole film crew plus his wife watching and all the _iewers too according to what ive just read,I don't remember any comment about it at the time from _iewers,media ect

Yes thats very true, i just think sexual abuse is a terible thing whoever it happens too but am aware that some women lie about it, but rolf harris was found guilty so thats different.

I never saw all the evidence, read the court transcripts, listened to the professionals, I just relied on the jury doing a good job.....

so can't comment, other than he was found guilty of the crimes he was charged with.

Any unwanted laying of hands on a person constitutes assault. The severity of that assault depends on many factors.

I would like to think that they haven't made accusations purely to get compensation however people have claimed to have cancer just to pocket charitable donations so I would put nothing past society these days.

I'd wager that significantly more evidence than we know about has been given, interrogated, analysed etc. So much so that a guilty verdict has been given. You may not like it but he has been found guilty through the same legal system you or I would be subject to if we were in the same situation.

I was under the impression that he had admitted to some of the accusations?

I think that lots of people have put their careers before the law in that their careers have protected them from the law and it wasn't the victims doing that.

People did _iew groping and inappropriate touching different back then. It was common place and happened quite openly. Does it make it right - no that's not what I am saying.

Views change over time. Societies moral stance changes over time. There are a number of posts in this thread which talk about the groping and touching incidents as if society _iewed them the same back then as most do today ... it didn't. It happened at work, it happened on the television (in both serious drama and comedy) without many eyes batting.

Some of the incidents which Rolf has been convicted for are inexcusable and abhorrent regardless of when they happened.

However, I personally feel some are close to understandable bearing in mind the environment, the _iews of the time and the general acceptability of such behaviour which completely surrounded him... even one of those who testified against him in court said everyone was at it, it was just one of those things that went on.

Yet another report states:

So, she wanted to encourage others to speak out... when she already knew it was too late.... first hmmmmmmmmm.

She waited for the first day of the trail when it's been in the news for how long? Second hmmmmmmmmm.

Would you wait until you would not be put under oath if you really wanted to make a difference? Third hmmmmmmmmm.

She decided to use her radio show to announce her ordeal. Another hmmmmmmm.

And for a final hmmmmmmmm. When would the safest time be to make such an announcement, before or after a guilty verdict?

Call me a sceptic but that's a lot of hmmmmmmmmms.

What makes us sceptical about a lot of these "Johnny come lately" claims is why they weren't reported over the last 50 years or so, why now.

We know that if either of us was abused by a celebrity when younger we wouldn't wait all those years before saying something.

We're not saying that these celebs aren't guilty of the crimes they're accused of, just that there are bound to be some seeing it as a chance of a nice little pension fund.

Why is it just celebs being brought to book, what about the regular Joe's who commit these sort of crimes?

There must be hundreds maybe thousands out there who have done it but they're still walking free.

Perhaps its because for every genuine complainant there are several bogus ones hoping for a quick few grand and your "average Joe" doesn't have the bank balance for that.

One celeb was outed as being a victim and dragged through the mud having her whole past forensically analysed when she was linked with a similar case. Why on earth would any woman want to come forward when faced with that. I for one can't imagine how much courage it takes to come forward.

For what it's worth, I am no fan of V and I can well imagine her being a real "princess" to work with.

It might well be VF enjoyed the attention back then. .. hence why she never said anything.

Only now, and you have to admit there is a strong smell of band wagon jumping.

One thing bothers me about the whole yewtree issue. Women have been able to use their charms for ever and a day. Seductive, some say manipulative. But should it happen not on their terms all hell breaks loose.

Naive from RF? Definitely with regard to the older victims.

I have read the court transcripts and the judges comments. RF is a nasty man. As are Savile and Clifford and Hall.

But what I can't quite formalise in my head is why all the victims could not speak up at the time. There must have been one or two who could have. And I am not talking about the child victims, only the adults.

Only two things in my mind stop them speaking up at the time. One, they all really are too scared or possibly at the time they thought they were getting something out of it.

Despite her claim that she just wanted to encourage others to come forward and that's why she made the announcement on her own radio show, her choice not to come forward in April (at the time of his arrest) and subsequent choice of timing was bound to cause scepticism at the very least.

Whether Rolf copped a feel of her or not... I believe she has done more harm than good.

For ever person who appears to be crying wolf, for every person who appears to have dubious motives, for every person who appears to have carefully timed their revelations... dozens more will be doubted and excessively scrutinised as a result - that's if it doesn't just encourage silence.

I was talking about the adult victims not the children.

A lot of the press and media are putting todays morals and ethics into the era the crimes were committed. And that makes it Oh so difficult for the jury.

I believe a victim has a duty to stand and be counted. To fight the oppression and seek justice. Not for financial reward. For justice.

I am not convinced some of the adult victims and eventhe older under age victims here are standing now for any other reason than cash. Some may well be doing the same process as whiplash claimants today.

Can I put it another way as I do understand why this is so emotive. Did they feel they were a victim of such a sick crime at the time of the event? If yes they should have shouted. Maybe they did, maybe not loud enough. .. If not loud enough why not ( and this is where my anger towards esther rantzen appears)

If not, why do they now feel a victim.

In terms of the Jimmy Saville case people did report him to the police on many occasions and nothing was done about it. Many people knew what he was like and chose to ignore it. It was the press that finally outed him after his death. Maybe this is why people like VF didn't go to the police years ago!

Vanessa jumping on the bandwagon -who really knows but lets not forget that at the heart of all this Rolf Harris, Jimmy Saville, Stuart Hall etc business were children. Children!! Being abused. Yes they may have waited years to report it. Many didn't and where laughed at. These were powerful, popular and media savy men. They were vulnerable children. How could they expect their voices to be heard? Why would he want to get in your knickers, you have an annoying voice.

And for children speaking up it must be a hundred times worse. Teenagers are body conscious and nervous already. They wouldn't want their friends knowing they had been touched up by a dirty old man. The attackers are very good at choosing their victim, they groom them over many years. They pick the weak and vulnerable.

For what its worth, I think Vanessa Feltz is getting a hard time on here. I believe her when she says she's spoken out now to try and encourage other victims to come forward. She did try and get her allegation out in time for the start of the trial but was too late. Just because people don't like her doesnt meant they have to slate her and accuse her of jumping on the bandwagon. Some of the comments on here about her are very distasteful and uncalled for.

On Rolf Harris, I find it a very sad situation. He clearly is guilty of the offences he's been accused of and deserves to be punished. I can't help feeling that there's some sort of vendetta now against celebrities though. We are living in very different times now to when these offences took place, and i am of the opinion that some of these allegations would not have been taken as seriously then as they are today. That said, he deserves to be punished and his reputation lies in tatters. Sadly I think there'll be many more celebrities who will find themselves in the same predicament in the next few weeks

You make a good case... that case being if she didn't want to come forwards after his arrest and didn't want to come forward before the trial...and could have remained anonymous after reporting it to the Police on the first day of the trial... why expose herself now?
